Flashback
"Ashton, I'm scared." I whispered into the dark, not knowing if he was still in front of me.
"You're okay Del, I'm here." I felt his hand reach out to grab mine, "I won't let anything hurt you."
I took a deep breath and nodded, even though he couldn't see me. I knew Ashton wouldn't let anything hurt me but it still didn't stop my fears from running wild.
"We're almost there. I promise." I kept my eyes closed and allowed Ashton to lead me through the night. I didn't know where we were going but if I was with him, I'd be okay.
"Open your eyes." With a deep breath I slowly let my eyes open. I saw Ashton, his face illuminated by the pale moonlight, smiling at me.
I looked around. This place, it's familiar.
"Do you remember Delilah? This is the place—"
"Where you told me you loved me."
"Delilah? You okay?" Luke asked, looking at me worriedly.
I nodded, though I didn't believe I truly was. These flashbacks are getting more and more frequent. Memories I thought had been long forgotten.
I sighed, "Luke, I .. I don't know if I can do this anymore."
"Do what Del?" My heart ached at that stupid nickname.
"Look for Ashton." Luke frowned, turning to face me. "It's hurting me Lu. I keep .. thinking we're getting closer to finding him, only to end up with more dead ends."
"I'm ... I had no idea Del, but we are getting closer. I can feel it."
"Then why don't I feel it? I loved Ashton. Why do I feel so hopeless still?"
Luke sighed.
"Del—"
"I can't do it anymore. I won't. I'm sorry Luke. It's over."
