Chapter 10
The five of us met Friday and decided out our bucket list. By 5:00 that night, we had a piece of paper with lots of words on it. Most of it was Mei's handwriting, but there was tons of scribbles, scratch's out, and tears from when Allie and Ryan were fighting over the list.
Right now, we were all sitting in silence, writing the list down onto our phones so that we could each have a copy. The paper in front of us read:
Summer Bucket List
1.) Order diet water at an expensive restaurant.
2.) Spend a day with a psychiatrist
3.) Crash a wedding
4.) Turn hippy for a day
5.) Ride horses through the forest
6.) Build a tree house
7.) Dye hair blue for a day
8.) Crash someone else's car
9.) Eat candy all day w/ Disney movies
10.) Order Chinese at 2 in the morning
11.) Rearrange all the books at a bookstore
12.) Invite the police to get manicures with you
13.) Act like a mime all day
14.) Watch the sunset, stay up all night and watch the sunrise together
15.) Fly kites on the beach
16.) Go sky diving
17.) Swim with dolphins
18.) Take a random 4th grade class to a field trip
19.) Bake cookies for a random person in the hospital
20.) Stalk someone for a day
"I dunno about you, but I'm heading home. This day has gone by way too slowly," Ryan stated after he finished typing the list into his phone.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good plan," Maggie agreed. "Hey, Allie, can you give me a ride home?"
Allie nodded her head, without looking up from her phone. I watched Mei finish typing up as well.
"Yeah, I gotta head home right now too, got an early morning tomorrow. Here's my number, and we can get to working on number one of our list?" I gave them my number, said my goodbye's and headed out the door.
The clouds were covering the sky, giving the street a gray-ish look. I had to walk 3 blocks up the street, just to get to my car. A slight breeze picked up and I shivered, hugging my coat closer to my body.
"Amber! Amber! Wait up!" I heard a male voice from down the street call. I whisked my body around and saw Ryan dodging in and out of people, trying to get to me. I smiled and then wondered why he was coming to see me.
He caught up finally, saying "You forgot your keys...". He handed me my green lanyard that had all my important keys on them.
"Oh my gosh thank you!" I smiled, and he smiled back. I noticed he had very nice teeth.
"No problem, my cars parked down this way, too."
"Oh, sweet." We began to walk again.
"So, where'd you meet Mei?"
"The hospital, actually. My erm, brother got a broken arm."
"Ahh that's too bad."
"Actually, we expected it, so it didn't really come as a shock."
He chuckled.
We created small talk until we reached my car. He waved goodbye, and as I got into the car, I felt something was different about him. It felt wrong to drive off and just leave him standing there, but once I got far enough down the road, I turned back to look at him. He had begun walking back from where we came from. Didn't he say his car was down here? I thought. I caught his gaze, and he smiled. About 30 seconds later, I received a text.
Ryan:
"To be honest, I stole your keys from your bag just to have a reason to talk to you alone(:"
