"Get down!" Dominic yelled. He grabbed me by the arm and jumped to the ground. I fell face first into the dirt as the sound of an explosion penetrated my ears.

I lay on the ground for as long as I could. The fall had knocked the wind out of me, and the enormous boom was still echoing in my ears. I rolled onto my back and surveyed my surroundings. Sophie was unconscious on the ground next to me. The building was still half standing, but the other half was in crumbled pieces of rubble.

I stood clumsily on my feet, and pulled the gun out of the back of my pants. I raised my weapon and circled the perimeter of the building, following the sound of moving rocks. When I found the source of the sound, I lowered my gun.

Dominic sat on the ground, trying to roll away the heavy pieces of cement. He stopped when he saw me, and I noticed blood on his hands and head.

"I can't find her," he said distraughtly.

I put my gun back in my pants and bent down next to him. I put my hand over his. He was shaking.

"I'll help you," I told him.

He looked up at me. There were tears in his eyes. He looked so helpless and weak, something I had never seen in him.

"Mim!" I called out.

"I don't think she can talk from under there," Dominic said.

"Okay," I stood up. "We should get back up there and get a bird's eye view."

Dominic nodded, and stood up wobbly. We scrambled onto the top of the part of the building that hadn't been demolished.

"Oh, shit," I said, immediately spotting Mim in the wreckage. She lay smack in the middle, unconscious with a metal pole through her stomach. "It won't kill her, will it?"

Dominic looked down at his sister and shook his head. "Only a few things can kill werewolves: silver bullets, silver knives, decapitation, and being torn apart by another werewolf."

"Also being impaled by another werewolf's claws, wolfsbane, starvation or being burned alive," I added.

"Wasn't sure how much you knew," he mumbled. "How are we supposed to get her out of there?"

"I'll go," I said.

"What?" He asked.

"There's no way we can reach her from the ground without shifting some of the rocks. We could crush her," I said. "We have to get her up. You have a rope, right? I'll go down and get her, and you can pull her up."

"I can't let you do that," he said. "We'll wait until Sophie wakes up."

"Dominic, look at her. Does it look like she can wait?" I asked.

Dominic looked down at Mim and closed his eyes. "Fine," he said. He jumped down to the ground where his backpack was, pulled a rope out, and jumped back up.

I tied the rope around my waist, and Dominic helped me lower myself down.

"Hey Mim," I said, finding my footing at the bottom. "I'm gonna get you out of here."

She opened her eyes slightly and smiled.

"I know it's going to hurt," I breathed out. "But I need you to sit up."

I put my hand on Mim's back and she sat up slowly. She screamed as the metal pole separated itself from her body.

"Good," I said as she fell back panting. I untied the rope from around me and put it around her, giving Dominic a thumbs up.

I walked cautiously through the rubble back onto solid ground. "Lana, careful!" Dominic said, meeting Mim at the top of the building. It was easier to walk through the broken pieces of cement, knowing that I didn't risk shifting a piece and crushing anyone.

I made it safely back into the dirt, and looked up to Dominic hugging Mim. As hard as I tried, I couldn't see Dominic as a monster. I couldn't see him as anything but a strong, protective and kind friend, who would do whatever it takes to protect his pack of non killing werewolves.

"Hey!" Luke's voice yelled. I turned to see him, Amelia and Calvin running towards us. "Are you guys okay? We heard an explosion!"

"We're fine," Dominic said, jumping down with Mim in his arms.

Calvin ran over to Sophie, who was just getting to her feet. "Woah," she giggled, holding her head in one hand.

"I'm gonna take her home, but you guys can keep going," Dominic said, holding Mim.

"No, Dom," Calvin said. "I think you'll want to stick around. We found something."
