Part 2.1

NaomI and Robbie (Denver. Colorado)

2 weeks later

"Stupid infected, always getting in the way," I dash behind the dumpster, careful to not make any noise. "Always travelling in groups, being cree-" a hand clamps over my mouth, "Please shut up, Nae," a voice says behind me, I turn to give Robbie a glare, before shrugging him off and mumbling "okay." I look ahead at the packs of Infested, hanging around the entrance of Big-Mart, you can't tell at a glance what type of infected they are, and that's what's pissing me off. It's been two weeks, we ran out of food, bullets and gas about two weeks ago, we've been walking since. We're heading towards New York, that is the last place that's evacuating people to escape this hell. We're in Denver right now, and it sucks we haven't gotten that far yet. So now we are currently in front of Big-Mart, so we can get new guns and some food. God! I am starving! I turn to Robbie, crouching next to me, he glances at me quickly, giving a small smile. I use this moment to mouth 'oh my god' to him and pretend to shoot myself in the head and make silly faces at him. Robbie just looks at me confused and rolls his eyes, shaking his head. I lean in and lick the side of his face, chuckling to myself when I see him jump back, wiping his cheek with slight disgust, it's light, because I know there's love under there and I tell him so. Robbie just shakes his head smiling "You're crazy, I have no idea why I love you." Because I'm awesome, I think to myself, cringing at the same time, that he used the 'l-word' again. "You ready" he asks me, I don't miss the seriousness in his tone. I do some controlled breathing. No weapons, just my bat, trying to sneak into Big-Mart, no biggie. We sneak around the infected, we're like a fart, silent but violent. We almost get to the back door, where the unloading magic happen, when I see something dash into our view. An infected we didn't see from our hidey spot behind the dumpsters. "Duck!" Robbie yells from behind as he swings the crowbar into the infected face, the infected screeches before the crowbar smashes it in its face, blood splattering everywhere. The other infected that we snuck around before turn and run towards us. Oh shit. I grip my bat tightly in my hand, as the first one runs up to me, I swing my bat upwards, catching the infected right in the face, before bringing it back down onto its head. Left. Up. Kick. To my right. Duck. Bring it up. Yes! In the face. Look at that blood splatter. We both stand there breathing heavily, looking upon the bodies on the floor. "Nae, c'mon" Robbie ushers me into the back door. Big-Mart is dimly lit, and giving me the creeps. I hear groaning from somewhere in the back. Great more infected. "Let's just grab what we need and get the hell out of here" I whisper over to Robbie. We creep down the halls, stuffing Doritos, Twizzlers, Bread and cans of soup and veggies into our backpacks. I hear another groan, sounds like it's in the next aisle. I put my hand to Robbie's chest, to stop him from moving, moving my finger to my mouth, signaling that we should be silent. Putting my backpack on, I move as stealthily I can, Robbie right behind me. Where the hell is this gun place? When we reach the end of the aisle, I see the infected standing still out of the corner of my eye, groaning. I grip my bat tightly, ready to aim for its head, when it turns its head in the opposite direction and running away from us. "Did it hear something?" Robbie says leaning into me to whisper into my ear."I don't know, and I don't want to find out" I whisper back. I spot the gun place thing in the corner of the store, open, thank god. We both jump over the counter, I grab the first thing I see, two Berettas, a Sig Sauer, a Remington Shotgun and the magazines that go with them. I look over Robbie to find him grinning like a fool, not knowing which one to take with him. Robbie taught me how to shoot a few months after we started dating, he took me to a shooting range, stood behind me the first time, to brace me for the blast, and then we made out after I made my first shot, by myself. "Got it, ready to get the heck outta dodge?" Robbie asks standing in front of me with a buttload of guns. I nod before jumping over the counter again. I'm very happy when I say we practically walked out of Big-Mart, not one infected in sight, which is weird, but I'm okay with it right now. We make it to the apartment we've taken cover in, on the fifth floor. "Nae," Robbin positions himself under the fire ladder, putting his hands on top of his knee to push me up. I grab onto his shoulders, before he hoists me up and I grab the ladder pulling it down. Just before I can start climbing up the ladder, Robbie sneaks in a kiss through the ladder bar, and I try unsuccessfully to hide my smile.
