Chapter 32

I didn't know what to say. Yes I admit that I still have feelings for Caleb but how could I turn Carter down? Last time I dated I got hurt in front of the whole school. Then again Carter's had a crush on me since the beginning of middle school. I'm dating him cause I feel sorry for him. Maybe I just need to give him a chance. Maybe we could make this work.

"Carter. I can't", I said.

"What?", he asked.

"I can't believe you asked me this. Yes I will be your girlfriend", I replied.

His face lit up and he hugged me immediately.

"Thanks for giving me a chance", he said.

"Well how could I turn you down after the amazing day we had?", I asked.

"Hmmm I don't know", he replied.

We both laughed and I felt like I'd found the one. Maybe I found the right guy for me.

Caleb's POV

I spent all day wondering if Amy talked to Carter again. I'm not going to let him take her from me. She's still mine in a way. I had her first. I looked down at my leg which was now swollen. The box thing was supposed to help it heal. Now it won't heal until they remove it from my heart. I'm supposed to get the surgery tomorrow. The sooner the better. The nurse came in. She drew some blood, took my temperature and checked my heart.

"It's slowing down. We need to get you into surgery early tomorrow morning", she said.

"About 7 am. I would go to bed early if I were you", she replied.

"Okay thanks", I said.

She walked out the room and I pulled my phone out my pocket. I called my mom and told they would do it tomorrow at 7 am. She began crying and I told her I would be okay. I hung up and sighed. Tomorrow could be my last day on earth. I called Amy and luckily she answered.

"Caleb I said we're done", she said.

"Who is that?", a male voice asked.

"Caleb", she replied.

"Is that Carter?", I asked.

"Yes now hurry up and say what you want", she said.

"I'm going into surgery tomorrow at 7 am. I want you to be there. I know you still care about me and I still care about you. I just wanted you to be there. I'm gonna need all the support I can get", I said.

"Caleb", she said.

"Amy please. I want your face to be the last thing I see before they take me in", I said.

"Fine. I'll be there by 6:45", she said.

"Thanks. I'll see you tomorrow', I said.
