Unobtainable (An Emison Story)

Chapter 21

Emily's POV

I take off my sweater and keep jogging around, trying to prepare my body and mind for the pool. I also decide to take a quick glance towards the crowd.

My eyes fall on Alison's and I quickly avoid eye contact. I smile to the boys as they give me thumbs up. I give them an exaggerated smile and two thumbs up as well. I look at Cece and shot her a quick wink and a cocky smirk, trying to get a rise out of Alison.

Cece just starts cracking up at my silliness and blows me a kiss. This causes me to laugh so hard and I decide to play along and catch it, putting it in my pocket.

I turn back around and turn my music up higher. After awhile the second set of swimmers jumps in and I take off my sweats and earphones. I put on my hair in a bun. I stretch my cap and slip in on my head, tucking in random hairs. I put my goggles on top of my head and focus on both my teammates and opponents strokes and speed.

Usually the second fastest swimmer goes first in relay races. Then the slowest of the four goes, after is the third fastest, finally I go the fastest. I'm not bragging or anything okay maybe I am just a little, but it's good to remind yourself keep yourself in check you know.

The third girl on our team jumps in, a little behind than the rest. I get on the platform and pull down my goggles I tune out the crowd, the water splashing, everything.

She getting closer and I take my form, she reaches the end and I jump in almost immediately. My body cuts the the water and suddenly I get lost in it. Forgetting it's a race, forgetting my opponents, forgetting all my records, every one in the crowd.

I feel as if I'm flying and I have full control. This isn't some soon to be interrupted dream, this is real life.

Before I know it, I reach the end of the pool. I yank my goggles of my face and hear the crowd cheering and swimmers barley approaching the end. Apparently I beat my old swim record by 2.2 seconds.

I use my upper body strength to pull myself out of the water. Once I'm on my two feet my teammates bombard me with tight hugs and lots of congratulations.

"Rosewood takes another win folks" I hear through the auditorium.

"Party at my house!" Mandy from the team shouts out to no one in particular.

I feel strong arms pick me up from behind like Simba and Rafiki in The Lion King.

"Here's the champion!" Toby gloats excitedly while carefully setting me down and engulfing me in a huge hug.

"Congrats Em!!" Cece says running, with the Girls walking behind her, into my arms.

"Thanks but I'm all wet and now I'm getting you wet too" I say trying to set Cece down.

"Trust me, I was wet before I even hugged you, just looking at you is enough." She says while nibbling on my earlobe.

Okay I need to get her off of me, like now! Once she finally gets down and Aria jumps on me.

"Is like jump on Emily day or something?" Hanna says, I wink at her, "because I'm next, sorry Ali and Spence!"

"Congrats Emmy!" Aria congratulates me while squeezing my checks as I continue holding her up! "I knew you could do it, and beat your record too!"
