The blood moon shone down on the eerily landscape, making the winding road glow scarlet with foreboding.

We walked down a dusty country path as the other passengers followed before dispersing in different directions as we got to a cobble crossroads ahead,

"The Castle, The Courts, The Centre and The Farms" the four arrows read.

Tynan pulled me in the direction of the castle and his troll minion quickly followed,

"So, this way is home, is it?" I sarcastically deduced to break the silence.

He ignored my derisive assumption and continued to drag me forward.

The troll swiftly hobbled behind before he stopped dead in his tracks and anxiously pointed to the hill ahead.

His slimy trembling grey finger directed our attention to a thick fog that started to emerge from behind the incline as it began to fill the area in front of us,

"Master, shall I go ahead and get the carriage?" the troll nervously suggested,

"No, it's fine. They will not come yet, plus we're not near the swamp. Let's hurry though" Tynan replied anxiously.

He quickened his pace to a jog. I attempted to keep up with him as he dragged me over a grassy hill and down into a dark valley with urgency,

"Hurry up!" he barked.

My hair flailed in my face, making it hard to see as an erratic grunting made me look back in terror,

"What is that?" I shrieked to Tynan.

A swarm of shadows bound towards us, snarling, growling and screaming as the black mass pulsated and raced to get to us,

"Open the gate!" Tynan shrieked to the petrified guards in front of us.

They frantically swung the wooden pulley wheel in the opposite direction, allowing the thick solid door to slam down onto the path and I felt my legs be lifted off the ground,

"Catch her!" Tynan bellowed as he threw me to an annoyed looking, small stocky brunette man.

The frustrated guard dropped me as soon as Tynan turned his attention back to the gate, so he could take part in the lively events. I scrambled to the corner of the courtyard, not wanting to be the bait for what the malevolent accumulation was and crouched down behind a wooden chest full of weapons to avoid detection.

"Shut the gate!" the troll screamed frantically to a young, inexperienced guard.

A banging ensued on the gate and the walls began to vibrate as the black mass reached the castle walls and was determined to get in.

A piece of rock came crashing down onto the chest and smashed up the container of weapons.

I dove out of the way before the flying swords, sickles and mace's sliced me in two before running over to Tynan and watching the interior of the castle grounds come alive with frantic movement.

All the guards circled the castle walls and positioned the cannons, from above, with weird looking ammunition,

"Why is that cannon ball white?" I asked inquisitively.

Frustrated by my presence, Tynan tried to push me into the corner and out of sight but it was too late.

The first cannon was fired and the white ball shot towards the enormous angry entity trying to gain entry to the castle,

"Take cover!" the firing guard yelled to the courtyard from the ledge above.

A blast rocked the outside castle walls as a blinding bright white light blasted towards the sky, making the vampires dive under thick blankets in designated hiding places, to ensure the sparkling white rainfall, from the blast, did not fall onto them.

It was beautiful.

The gigantic blast lit up the sky and enveloped all the darkness in a ten mile radius.

A peaceful silvery blanket fell down onto the land as a sparkling white golden shower trickled down onto the castle grounds,

"Is it dead?" Tynan shouted from under his blanket.

No one answered.

I knew I should have remained where I was but with the dead silence echoing around the grounds, something attracted me to the shimmering light on the other side of the wall and that was when my curiosity got the better of me.

I cautiously stood up from my hiding place and carefully negotiated my way through the covered vampires before heading to the castle gate.

There was no signs of life or movement as I peered through a crack in the concrete at the side of the opening and nervously put my hand on the gate pulley,

"Are you insane? You will kill us all if you open the gate" a familiar voice warned from behind.

A tugging on my hoodie forced me to turn round to see it was the troll trying to stop me from going further.

Terror filled his yellow, pus filled eyes,

"It's dead. There is no sign of life of there. The cannon worked" I assured him.

I put my hand on the pulley and swung it in the opposite direction.

The wooden wheel rotated round and the chains loudly scraped against each other as they released the heavy wooden divide and opened up the castle courtyard.

The troll dove behind a barrel at the side of the opening,

"I told you not to open it, you stupid girl" he whispered, "You have killed us all now".

I chuckled at his melodramatic rant and turned back to face the open doorway smugly,

"You see there is nothing there" I replied.

Cautiously walking to the archway, I popped my head out and slowly looked to the left and then to the right,

"Definitely nothing there" I confirmed as I stepped back and gestured the dubious creature out.

He slowly crept out and tiptoed towards me, refusing to take his eyes off the opening,

"I thought you were braver than this" I laughed. He continued to hide behind me as I turned and wafted him away.

A cold breeze slapped my back, paralysing my body for a split second with fear and foreboding,

"What's going on?" the troll gawped as he looked up and saw the remaining flutter of sparkling cannon ash slow down, and freeze, in the mid-air before us,

"Master!" he shrieked.

The hairs stood up on the back of my neck, knowing that the reason for the change in atmosphere was waiting at the gate behind me,

"Turn around!" a voice echoed in my head but my body refused to comply.

"What's going on?" Tynan yelled from beneath his cover, unable to help.

"Master, she opened the gate" the troll shrieked.

He backed away and jumped back into his hiding place, peeking out a few times to assess the dangerous situation.

I mustered all the bravery within me and slowly turned around.
