a cycle

winter words and cold feet

i pretended i was okay

pink knitted scarf wrapped around my fragile shoulders

missing your soft hand in mine

spring renewal and tousled hair

i pretended i was fine

gray converse fit snugly on my feet

missing your eyes when you looked at me

summer freedom and sunnier skies

i thought i was okay

denim cut-offs and dirty flipflops left poolside

missing your beaming smile, just like the sun

autumn breaths and back to school

i knew i wasn't fine

number two pencils, held in shaking hands

missing your thoughts, you let them be known

winter words and cold feet

i pretended i was okay

new red scarf wrapped around my fragile shoulders

and the cycle repeats again
