all your life you've looked forward to this
7 years full of courage and strength and memories to last a lifetime
you've waited forever and all you need to know is
will it be different than your childhood
will you go to parties
meet a boy who actually cares and remembers your sixteenth birthday
take roadtrips with your many friends
listen to a bunch of cool bands and go to concerts
as the clock strikes 12 you think you'll feel different
you imagine sparks flying as you transition from child to teen
but you feel the exact same way
you did at least an hour ago
you don't feel 13, you don't look 13
you just look tired
you think, "i'll make it feel different.
"i'm a teenager now. everything changes."
but, yet, you stay in on friday nights
and you only have 5 friends
your whole family still treats you like a baby
and your teachers treat you like a college student
you're up til 3am, worrying and wondering
if anyone still likes you
not many people approach you
so you just feel weird
teenage angst is really only what you feel
you long for something exciting,
something out of a john hughes movie
but every teenager is different
and you are definitely unique
even if you cry over bands
and watch the same tv show every tuesday
you're still a crazy, hormonal, beautiful, amazing, angsty teenager
