Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Their thirst

Hikari P.O.V.

"This can't be right! It just can't!" I ran down the stairs to the front of class to confront Mr. Yageri. "Um, sir? I think there's been a mistake. I got a 51%." He looked up from his desk and replied "No, that's right. I want you to look over your work more. You missed a lot."

I stood back with an open mouth in awe. I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I quickly turned around to meet the gaze of Takuma. "Are you okay Hikari-chan?" Nothing came out, I just stood there with an open mouth. "N-n-not really. I-I got 51%."

He gave me the "Well that won't do" look as he took my test. He read through the pages and nodded. "Oh, I see where you went wrong. I can help you with it if you don't mind." I could feel my cheeks going a bright shade of red. "Me and Takuma on a study date! This is gonna be amazing!"

"Um, sure. I'd like that." He grinned as he gave me my test back. "Awesome! We can work on it in the morning. We're both usually up then anyway." He turned around and followed Hanabusa out the door. Before he left, he flashed me a smile and winked.

I felt like collapsing into a massive heap of melted love. My heart like a big pile of amazing mush. Rima walked up behind me and said "Snap out of it, lovebird. It's time to this thing called sleeping." I blushed and followed her back to our dorm.

It was the next morning and I put on my fanciest (and most revealing;-p) outfit. I walked down the stairs to see Takuma, who had laid out all of our books for studying. I smiled and said "I guess we should get to studying."

He had set up everything we needed to cover the lesson. "So we'll start with the history of vampires." We talked for a while and I wrote a LOT down. "C'mon Hikari! Just tell him how you feel!" I spoke out. "I know this might sound weird, but.. I think I love you."

He looked surprised but he calmed down "I feel the same way..." My heart started racing and I blushed. Takuma leaned in and held my cheek. I closed my eyes as I felt his soft lips on mine...

I shot awake, panting and sweating. "A dream? It was a dream?! God damnit!" I checked the clock to make sure I wouldn't be late. "Crap! We're meeting in 10 minutes!" I tried to be as quiet as possible as I rushed to get ready.

My hair was half up and my shirt was half untucked as I went to meet Takuma. I saw him at the bottom of the stairs, smiling up at me. "Good morning! Are you ready to study?"
"Honestly, no. I hate studying and tests and really anything to with school."

I kept those thoughts to myself as I smiled back. "Yeah, I am." He had gotten around 15 books all about the history and the evolution of vampires. I had brought my blood tablets with me, just in case he started drinking them. I wanted to be as cool as him.

We started the study "date" by me writing down a lot of crap I didn't care about and Takuma reading out parts of the book. It got more fun after a while. He started quizzing me on parts of the book and it turned into one of a game show.

I was actually enjoying myself. "This is almost like bonding time for me and him. Hopefully we'll become closer after this. I would like that very much." Takuma brought me out of my thoughts as he carried on with the lesson.

"So that's how the feud between vampires and humans started. Are you getting this?" I frantically wrote down as much as possible. "I think so, yeah." He grabbed some glasses and a water jug. "Would you like a drink?" I nodded as he poured water into two glasses and grabbed his "blood" tablets.

I got mine and we each watched the pills bubble until the water was crimson red. We relaxed for a while and talked about life. (I guess.) "As much as I hate studying," I started to say. "I'm having a lot of fun." He stood up and grabbed a textbook. "Well it's certainly not over yet."

I sighed and went to grab some paper. As I picked it up, my finger started to drip bright red liquid down my hand. "Ugh, paper cut. A pretty bad one too." Takuma turned around as his eyes went big. He came closer and replied "I can help you with that."

He took my wrist and brought it up to his lips. My heart started racing as the blood ran down my arm. "T-Takuma?" He stuck out his tongue and licked the blood from my wrist to my finger.

I watched in fear as revealed two incredibly sharp teeth. He stared at me with blood red eyes as he inserted the teeth into my finger. I felt pain, as if hundreds of tiny needles piercing my skin. My fingertip throbbed as I felt like I was being drained of blood.

"T-T-Takuma?" I whispered as he took his mouth away and wiped his lips. The crimson left his eyes and went back to green. He looked surprised that I was surprised. My eyes started to water as I looked down at my finger, now with two piercings on my finger. I looked back up as tears ran down my face. "I-I'm sorry."

I ran, I ran as far as I could go. Away from the Moon Dorms, away from the students, away from Takuma. I heard him yell from behind me, "Hikari, wait! Don't go! Hikari!" My mind was racing with explanations on what just happened, why it just happened.

I burst through the doors and kept running and running until I got to somewhere I thought was safe. Somewhere I could be alone, with my thoughts, just for a little while. "Then again, why would I want to be?"

I collapsed under a tree, tears all over my face. My heart was pounding and my finger was in an immense amount of pain. My body shook all over, not only because of the cold, but because of the fear that was running through my veins. "Akagawa-sama, are you ok?"

Takuma P.O.V.

I collapsed on the couch, blood still around my mouth. "Her blood, her blood. It tasted... Human."
