Chapter 3: Their blood

We all sat down in the seats in our classroom. Of course, I went to go sit down with Rima and Ruka, but Ruka was with Kaname, so I sat with Rima and another boy. He had auburn hair and pale blue eyes. "This is Senri Shiki." He looked at me waved. "Hey." I waved back. "Hey."

The class went silent as the teacher walked into the class. He had incredibly long, dark navy blue hair and blue eyes. But I could only see one, because he had a steel eyepatch over the other. I whispered to Rima. "What happened to him?" She shrugged her shoulders. "No one knows for sure, but it's rumoured he lost it fighting a level E."

"Level E? What the heck's a level E?" My thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the teacher. "Before we start today, we're going to introduce the new student." Oh no, no no no no! Oh god no!! "Ms. Akagawa, please come to the front of the class." Crap...

I quietly walked down to the front of the class. I could feel dozens of eyes burning the back of my neck. I turned around to see the whole Night Class staring at me. "Well, hello. I'm Hikari Akagawa, I got here yesterday." I heard a voice yell, "What level are you?" I thought about what they said. "W-what do you mean?"

"Seriously?" The voice replied. "Like pureblood, aristocrat, common, former human, level E? What level are you?" I thought about it for a minute. "Well we don't really use those terms where I come from but I guess I'd be an.. Aristocrat." I heard the teacher from behind me. "I'm Toga Yageri by the way. You can go back to your seat now."

A few hours later, Yageri finished his talk. "So tomorrow we will continue this subject. Goodnight." Everyone started packing up while I had just finished writing notes. I told Ruka that I'd meet her back in the dorm. I thought about today's classes, why we only talked about the history of vampires. Vampires don't even exist!
...do they?

Apparently the classes usually end later, so me and Rima stayed up just to talk. "So, what did that guy mean by level?" She looked at me like I was an idiot.

"Well, levels kind of represent where we are in the rankings. The purebloods, like Kaname, have never mixed with humans. Aristocrats have parents that are both aristocrats. Level C, or commons, are when a human and our kind have a child. Level D are former humans and level E, or level End, are when they've gone full blown crazy."

"Oh, ok." After that we decided to go to bed. But I couldn't sleep after what Rima had told me. "Never mixed with humans, pureblood, our kind, former humans? What does that all mean? And why is all the stuff we learn only about vampires?"

These thoughts swirled around in my head until I fell into a deep sleep...

I jolted awake, just stopping myself from screaming. I checked the clock on the wall. It read 2:56 p.m. "Well, you're up now, no point in going back to sleep." I threw on a skirt, a shirt and my black coat and went downstairs, hoping to see Takuma.

Luckily, he was sitting there, with his perfect golden hair. He looked up and waved. I walked down the stairs to greet him. "Hi Takuma. How are you?"
He smiled and replied "Ok I guess.." I could see there was pain in his eyes, but he changed the subject before I could ask him about it.

"It's kinda stuffy in here, want to go for a walk?" I stood there, unable to speak for a moment. "Me. And Takuma. Alone? Yes please!!" I kept those thoughts to myself and smiled innocently. "Sure, why not?"

The Day Class were in class, so it was quiet. (For once!) It was a cool afternoon, so I was glad that I brought my coat. "So, how are studies going?" Takuma asked me. I shrugged and said "Y'know, they could be better, I'm just worried about today's test." He put his hand on my shoulder and reassured me. "Don't worry. If you need help, I'd be happy to."

My heart was racing as we came back in from the garden. I said goodbye to Takuma and ran back to the room with a smile on my face. I walked in to see Rima eating breakfast and reading her notes. "It seems kind of early for you today."

"Hey, insulted! But I'm only up because of today's test." I came to sit next at her on the sofa. "Well, I just went on a walk with Takuma..." She looked at me with surprise while she shoved cereal into her mouth. "I guess that would count as a first date." My eyes widened and my cheeks went red. Rima almost choked on her cereal laughing.

Rima went back to bed and I looked over my notes for tonight. I put in my headphones and started jamming to my favourite songs. Since I was so intensely listening to my music, I didn't hear Kaname enter the room and come over to me. I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Akagawa?"

I spun around and almost punched him in the face. He caught my fist and started into my eyes. I could tell he could see the fear in my eyes. "I-I'm so, so sorry Kaname-sama!" He let go of my wrist and replied. "It is ok, you were afraid. You have good instincts, that's good."

I took a breath and tried to react calm. "What are you doing here, Kaname-sama?" He ran his fingers through his hair and said "I wanted to see if you are ready for today's test. It is not as hard as you think." I smiled and replied "I'm good, I think I'll be ok."
"Alright, I'll leave you be. See you tonight."

I read for a while, then I went over my notes. While doing this, I thought about the dream I had the night before...
Drink my blood, Hikari... Please drink my blood...

"What could that have meant?" I thought to myself as I read boring stuff about vampires... Vampires? "Wait, was I dreaming about vampires? No, that can't be... Can it?" I tried to forget what I was thinking about because I didn't want to...

I was scared...
