"Hey."

I almost jumped out of my skin upon hearing a voice so close to me and I looked to my left and saw that the man who had been watching me had been the one to speak. I stared at him, taking in his appearance. With his black hair and his dark eyes, it filled me with dread because he looked like the type to be able to kill me in seconds, judging by his muscles. It was clear he frequented a gym often.

He was also wearing dark clothing too and that only made me more worried. Was this the man that Rolan following me? Was he an enemy of Shadow's? Was he a vampire too?

As I was questioning everything about him, I realised that I hadn't spoken. He was watching me, biting his lip as though he was trying not to laugh.

"Hi..." I trailed off, glancing around the shop. Shadow said he'd be here, I had to at least try and believe that.

"I'm Jason. What's your name?"

Make it up, make it up! Don't give him your real name, I shouted internally.

"Sophie." I blurted the first name that came to mind.

He smiled, nodding. "Well, are you okay, Sophie? You look a little panicked."

"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking." I replied, smiling slightly. I cast another glance around the room and sighed when I didn't see Shadow. "I'm just waiting for a friend."

"A male friend?" Jason asked. Looking back at him, he had his eyebrows raised, waiting patiently for me to answer. I frowned, why would he want to know that?

I nodded anyway. "Yeah."

"Boyfriend?"

"Yeah." I lied, glancing around again. Surely he'd leave me alone now, right?

Wrong.

"I don't believe you." He stated.

"That's your problem."

"Why would any guy leave such a pretty girl on her own?" He asked, taking a step closer. I automatically took a step back.

"He had a phone call."

"You're lying."

"No, I'm not."

"So where is this boyfriend of yours?" Jason asked, a smirk on his face.

"Right here." Came a voice from behind Jason, who was immediately pulled away from me. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw Shadow. I didn't even care that he looked extremely annoyed, I was just happy to be away from the creep that had been getting a little too close for comfort.

"Ah, so you're the boyfriend," Jason said as Shadow released his hold on him. "I was beginning to think she was making him up."

"Clearly not so you can leave now." Shadow stated, coming to stand beside me and wrapping an arm around my waist. I tensed, only for a second. Then, I relaxed. I felt safe now, as stupid as that may seem.

Jason held his hands up in mock surrender, still looking amused. He waved once and then, not waiting for a goodbye, he walked away. It wasn't until he had exited the shop that I let out a breath, not realising I'd been holding my breath.

"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Shadow asked, stepping in front of me and placing both hands on my shoulders as he let his eyes roam my body, looking for any sign of injury. I blushed under his scrutiny.

"No, I'm fine. Just a little shaken. Was he one of them?" I asked, knowing he'd understand what I meant.

He shook his head. "No, he was just trying to hit on you, I think."
