Chapter Nineteen

Things changed between me and Shadow after that. He was a lot more understanding than I had given him credit for. Now he knew how I felt about certain things, he had been trying his best to watch what he says but, more importantly, he was trying his best to make sure I was alright. It was like we had turned a corner, that we could get along without him threatening to kill me every ten minutes. Of course, he still got angry and would threaten me but I was learning to just brush it off because he was right; if he wanted to kill me then he wouldn't be trying to protect me. 

I was feeling a little better about everything after the talk with Shadow though I had a long way to go before my emotional wounds would be mended. I knew I was far from being fixed but I was just happy to have been able to open up a little. I had kept everything inside for too long that it was breaking me down little by little but now, I felt as though one day I would be okay. That's all I could hope for. 

"Violet!" I heard my name being called from the kitchen so I got up from the sofa and walked into the kitchen, to see that Leah and Alec were deep in conversation about something. 

"Yeah?" I said, glancing at the two of them. 

Leah smiled as she looked at me, jumping up to come over to me and give me a hug. I awkwardly hugged her back, wondering what she wanted me for. I hadn't seen Leah in a few days because she'd been staying with Alec so I was a little surprised to see her so suddenly. 

"How are you?" She asked me as she pulled away, going back to sit opposite Alec at the table. The same table where Rolan... no, I shook my head, I couldn't keep thinking about that. I couldn't. It would drive me insane. 

"I'm okay." I replied.

"Good, that's good, that's great!" Leah said, grinning hugely. She was too happy and it was beginning to make me feel uncomfortable until Alec spoke up. 

"Leah, relax, would you? You're creeping her out." 

"Oh shut up! I'm allowed to be happy! Raven is locked up somewhere, you're back with me and Shadow is actually trying to get on with Violet! It's a wonderful day!" She said to Alec, that grin still on her face. 

Alec shook his head at her in amusement. "You're such an idiot." 

"Yeah but I'm your idiot." She replied, winking as she got up to go and sit on his lap. When they started to kiss, I took that as my cue to leave. That whole interaction was a little strange, that was for sure. 

I went back into the living room and sat back down, grabbing my phone. I was going to call Rose as I hadn't heard from her in a few days so I wanted to catch up but as it turned out, I didn't have to call her as I had a message from her. I quickly opened it up. 

From: Rose 
I'M COMING TO VISIT YOU BITCH TITS! I'm coming tomorrow so you better be ready because I've missed your ass! I'm so excited!

To: Rose
What?! I can't wait to see you, I've missed you too! Are you driving here or getting the train? Where are you staying?

Although I was extremely excited now that I knew I'd be able to see my friend, the one person who gave me a sense of normalcy in this crazy new world I'd been thrown into, I was internally panicking. Shadow wouldn't let me leave the house without a chaperone, not just because of Raven but because he was afraid I'd run. There was no way he'd leave me alone and yet there was no way Rose could see me with him or any of the others. 

While I was having my internal debate on what I could do, my phone vibrated in my hands, signalling that I had just received another message. 

From: Rose
