CHRISTIAN POV
After school, Melanie gave me her address and I walked outside to the parking lot, climbing into my car. Chris was already in the passenger seat.
"I'm dropping you off at home." I told him.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"To Melanie's house for the project." I said simply.
"Sure... The 'project.'" He said, making air quotes. I rolled my eyes.
"You know, I think she's catching on to what we are." I said worriedly.
"That was my intention." Chris said happily.
"Yeah, well when I was writing down my middle name on a form she saw it and she knew it meant demon. Then she asked what your middle name was." I said.
"So basically she's realizing that you have a demonic middle name and mine is just normal." Chris said with a shrug.
"Yeah but I have a feeling she knows more than she's letting on." I replied uneasily.
"Maybe you should check out the awesome notes I gave her yesterday. It might give you a clue." He said with a smirk.
"Christopher! I told you not to do that!"
"Well I did. Now run along and go to your little girlfriend's house. But remember, if you can't contain yourself and she turns into a pile of ash... That's on you." He said, getting out of the car and slamming the door as we pulled up to our house. I could feel my eyes glowing, the warm tingly sensation in my palms... I shook my head to stop the shifting and gripped my necklace in my hand. It was kind of like Chris' necklace, except mine was a fiery orange color and it was a different shape.
I quickly pulled out of the driveway and drove to Melanie's house, praying to god that I didn't hurt her. Chris wouldn't be here to calm me down if I shifted, and sometimes I couldn't do it on my own.
CHRIS POV
As I walked inside and threw my backpack on the floor, I couldn't deny the fact that I was worried. I was worried about Melanie, a feeling that I tried to push away. What if Christian hurt her? He wasn't like me. I was in control, I wouldn't hurt her if we got carried away... But he- he could. And he might.
I had seen her kiss him today in the hallway, I had seen her hug him, and I had seen her look over at me with an indifferent expression. Whatever. If she wanted to choose him, so be it. She would make me weaker anyway, and I might feed off her by accident. Even though she might be better off getting fed from than what Christian could do to her. And she had still seen what both of us were capable of last night. I wondered how that would affect her.
MELANIE POV
After Christian and I finished the rough draft for the project, I quickly packed everything up.
"Now, about that alone time you mentioned earlier..." He began with a smirk. I smiled and laid him back on the bed, climbing onto his chest and staring down at him.
"What about it?" I asked obliviously.
"Never mind, I can take care of it." He said, pulling my lips down to his. He kissed me softly, and once again I felt like he was holding back. My tongue traced his lower lip, and he pulled away.
"What?" I asked.
"I can't... I'm not... In control." He gasped, squeezing his eyes shut. A few seconds later, his breathing went back to normal and his head slumped back on the bed.
"I can't kiss you- out of control." He said, looking at me.
"It's okay, Christian. I- I know what you are." I said.
