I was worrying about the war all day long. Chris seemed confident, and Christian seemed to be in deep thought. I knew all three of us were thinking about it. I could hardly pay attention in class as I thought about every single thing that could go wrong. First of all, I was going to be locked in a big house with a bunch of demons from Chris's side, and none of them wanted me there. Jackson would kill me and Chris if he found out about us, and I didn't know how Chris was going to keep him from hurting us.

As soon as school was over, I went to my locker and got my books, shutting it and sighing. I just stood there for a few minutes, worrying about everything. I jumped when I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I turned to see Chris giving me a small smile.

"You don't have to worry. You'll be safe with me." He assured me. I slowly nodded and let him pull me into an embrace as I tucked my head in his shoulder.

"Can you take me home?" I asked softly. He nodded and took my hand as he led me out of the school.

We walked over to my car in the parking lot and Chris took my keys, hopping in the driver's side as he started it up. Just as we were about to pull away, a sharp tap on the window startled me. I turned to see Christian standing outside of the car, so I quickly rolled down the window.

"Hey, just making sure you didn't forget about the project." Christian said with a small smile.

"No, I didn't forget. I'll be there." I assured him. He nodded once and then backed away as Chris drove us out of the parking lot and headed towards his house.

"Remember what I said about coming to get me after you're done." Chris said with a wink. I blushed and nodded and a few minutes later he was pulling into the drive way with a smirk. I got out of the car and walked into the house beside him, noticing that Christian was already home. Chris led me to the living room where Christian was sitting on the couch with his laptop.

"See you later." Chris whispered in my ear before making his way upstairs.

"Hey Christian." I greeted him as I took my seat next to him.

"Hey." He replied nonchalantly. I sighed and looked to see what he was doing on the laptop. He pulled up a blank powerpoint and I let out a deep breath before I prepared to finish this stupid project.

CHRIS POV

I laid in my bed shirtless, waiting for Melanie to come get me. I was worrying about the war that was coming, and I knew I would protect her at all costs. I loved her with everything I had.

About half an hour later, my door creaked and I looked up to see Melanie walking towards me. She shut the door behind her and kissed my lips softly.

"Hey." She whispered.

"Hey." I responded, combing my fingers through her long brown hair.

"Why did you want me to come get you?" She asked curiously.

"I was just wondering if I could sleep at your house tonight so we can leave early to the manor." I explained.

"Of course you can stay." She said , trailing her hand lightly down my chest.

I sat up, taking her hand as we exited the bedroom. As we walked past Christian, he raised his eyebrow at us, but then he just shook his head and looked away. I ignored him and we went back to Melanie's car and I drove us back to her house.

MELANIE POV

When we got back to my house it was getting kind of late, and it was dim outside. Chris and I went inside my house and I dropped my backpack in the floor as I led him upstairs to my room, which I had cleaned yesterday.

Chris sat on my bed and I sat in his lap.

"I'm still scared Chris." I admitted. I heard him sigh.

"You don't have to be scared. Nothing will happen." He whispered, kissing my neck lightly.

"How will you stop Jackson if he tries something?" I asked, looking up at him. He smiled and brushed my hair away from my face.

"I don't know, but I will. I promise." He assured me. I leaned up and kissed him, wishing that we didn't have to be trapped in a giant house with a bunch of other demons.

"I don't wanna go." I complained.

"I can't leave you here koritsáki." He mumbled. I tucked my head in his chest and listened to his heart beat.

"I know." I admitted.

Chris had to reassure me for the next few hours about my safety before I finally believed nothing would happen. He was laying back on the bed now with me curled into his side as I thought over everything. My eyes were slowly closing and I struggled to keep them open.

"Tired?" Chris asked with a chuckle. I nodded and he sat up, removing his shirt and jeans and laying back to where he had been before. My eyes were instantly drawn to the shiny black necklace resting on his chest.

"What would happen if you didn't have that?" I asked, touching the necklace. It felt surprisingly warm in my hand.

"I wouldn't be able to control anything. It's the only thing that can keep me calm. All of our kind are given one of these at birth so nothing turns into a complete disaster." He explained. I nodded and remembered how tired I was. I got up and grabbed a pair of cotton shorts and a t-shirt before walking into the bathroom and changing. I didn't know why I felt the need to change out of his sight, but I did it anyway.

I walked back into the bedroom and crawled onto Chris's chest as he wrapped his arm around me.

"S 'agapó̱." He said softly. I was already halfway asleep, but I wanted to answer him.

"S 'agapó̱." I mumbled tiredly. He chuckled at my poor attempt to imitate his language, and I felt a slow smile spread across my face before I drifted off to sleep in his warm embrace. Tomorrow was a big day.
