The Wave

Chapter 6

As soon as I let go of the tree, the current sucked me back under. I heard the start of Liam's yell, but it was muffled out by the water going into my ears. My eyes fluttered open and I ran into a truck that was floating in front of me. 

I screamed in the water as a piece from the car sliced into my side, making the muggy water around me turn red. I started paddling, but I wasen't getting anywhere. So I just let the current take me to the area where Liam waited. Just when I though I couldn't hold my breath any longer,  a strong arm lifted me out of the water.

I gasped for air as I resurfaced. I turned my head and saw Liam gripping onto the pole. I quickly grabbed onto his neck and buried my face in his neck. I let out sobs. 

"L-L-Liam! I was so s-scared! The w-w-wave came out of no..." Just as I was about to finish, I saw something in the distance. 

Another wave.

I screamed and Liam turned toward the ocean. His eyes widened and he faced me. 

"Charlotte, I'm not going to let you go. I promise baby I will not lose you again. Not again. It's ok. It's ok." He whispered into my ear tyring to calm me down. 

I stopped screaming and then just sat there, shaking and crying. Liam's grip on my waist never loosened. The cut on my side stung, along with all the others I got from debris in the water. 

The new wave started to get closer, knocking down any remaining trees and picking up all the trash it created the first time. 

This is going to hurt. I thought as I saw metal and wood being tossed around in the wave. 

Liam pulled me closer so I had my back on the pole. I winced from the pain that shot through my back. He saw my face but didn't say anything. Then, he wrapped his arms around me and the pole so I wouldn't float away. 

"Ok Charlie, you need to hold on to me and not let go when the wave hits ok?"

I nodded frantically, unable to speak. 

"Please don't let go Charlotte! I've got you."

I could hear the wave coming closer. The sound of metal clashing together made me cringe. 

I saw Liam's eyes bulge, then he ducked his head. I did the same just as the waved pummeled into us.
