Dear Diary,
Finally someone talked to me! I made a new friend, her name is Faria.
Secretly I think she has a bit of a crush on Pamir, but he doesn't buy into it. I don't think he really likes her.
She came from a town close to mine, and her family used to be really wealthy, until the war, and her house was bombed. They have been living in shelters and at friends houses since. Her little brother Khair doesn't stop moaning though, I wouldn't be surprised if he was thrown out next.
Mum is getting a bit better, she is refusing the food I am giving her, but her strength is getting up which is good. I don't know what I would do without her.
Pamir remembered my favourite poem from school that we learned and he wrote it out for me on a napkin that he found in a corner...
I am caught in Love's web
so deceitful
None of my endeavours turn fruitful.
I knew not when I rode the
high-blooded stead
The harder I pulled it's reins the
less it would heed.
Love is an ocean which is such a vast space.
No wise man can swim it in any place.
A true lover should be faithful till
the end
And face life's reprobated trend.
When you see things hideous, fancy
them heat.
Eat poison, but taste sugar sweet.
Don't you like it? It was written by Rabi'a Balkhi, a Dari poet, and we studied it in school last year.
I can't believe Pamir remembered it! He was always so bored in those lessons. Sometimes I thought he was actually asleep.
I'm getting tired now, almost falling asleep.
Goodnight. God bless.
Love Tahira
xx
