--CHAPTER 2--
Trixie
Zedd and Foxes's "Clarity" was blaring from my phone that day as I was driving on my way to class. I actually sanga long to it first until I realized that it was my ring tone and that someone was calling. I glanced at my phone and saw Carla's name. Carla is my dad's wife, but no, I refuse to call her my mother because one, she definitely is not my mother, and two, I just don't like her.
Okay, I know that sounds nasty and all that shit but I just couldn't bear with the fact that a twenty-five year old girl like her is my stepmom and is dad's wife. Not that there's nothing wrong with her, I mean, she's smart and beautiful and definitely could get her hands on anyone on the block, but she chose to be with my father! Someone older, and richer. It's judgmental of me to think that way, but come on.
Love? Oh for the love of God, I don't even know if that's what brought them together. In this day and age, it's just so hard to believe that that could even happen--especially to my dad. I still can't believe he and my mother broke up in the first place. I was just twelve then and one day, my mother just opted out. No explanations, nothing. I don't even know where she is now. I don't know anything. It's crazy, not even knowing the details of your own life.
I hit the "End" button so as not to answer 's call. I have no reason to, anyway. But then, she called me again a second time, and then a third which was enough to piss me. I hit "Answer" just as the traffic lights said "Stop".
"Trixie," Carla cried. As in, she was literally crying.
I shook my head, "Do you really want me to die or what? You know I'm driving and you go and call me--"
"Trix...Your father's dead," She cried, "He's dead. He...he had a heart atatck and I just--"
I did not hear the rest of her words. I chose not to. I didn't even care that the cars behind me started honking their horns, or that soon enough, there were policemen coming up to me. I didn't care. My father's dead. It just can't be true.
