"Hello campers! Are y'all ready for the Midnight Hike?" Riley asked us.

Cheers.

"For this Hike, you will need a partner." Riley explained.

I looked at Alli and Christian. They had a confused expression on their faces and shrugged.

I didn't want to get in between them during the Midnight Hike and let them enjoy some alone time.

"I guess I'm a single pringle on this one." I sighed. Alli put her hand on my shoulder.

"You're not a single pringle, Cara." She began. "You're more like an open bag of Salt and Vinegar chips that make your breath smell bad and no one likes." Alli said in a comforting tone.

I brushed her hand off my shoulder and gave her a sarcastic smile.

"Thanks, Alli."

"Anytime, girly!" She winked, not getting my sarcasm.

I looked over my shoulder and saw Bella clinging onto Cody's elbow. She looked excited while Cody looked the complete opposite - scared.

I turned around and listened to Riley's final instructions. After she was done speaking, everyone partnered up with their buddies.

I was the only one not standing next to someone, except for a few other kids.

Cody saw me standing alone and walked over to me.

"Hey." He smiled.

"Hi." I replied awkwardly. Bella was giving me the evil eye behind Cody's back.

"Why don't you have a buddy?" Cody asked, concerned.

"I didn't want to get in between Alli and Christian." I explained.

Cody nodded.

"Bella has a bunch of friends who can help her during the Hike. I'll stay with you." He said.

I shook my head. "Thanks, but no thanks." I smiled.

I wouldn't have minded being partners with Cody during the Hike at all, but I was looking forward to my evil plan.

He half smiled. "Are you sure? I don't want you being alone without a buddy inside the forest. You need a strong," he coughed, "man to protect you." He added, blushing.

I laughed and rolled my eyes, pushing him toward Bella.

"When you find a 'strong man,'" I mocked him, "To protect me, lemme know!"

He stuck his tongue out and walked back to Bella. I caught up with Alli and Christian.

"When does this evil plan of yours take place?" Alli asked.

"Soon."

"This is horrible. I should have never gone on this Hike!" Bella cried.

Alli, Christian and I felt sorry for Cody. Bella was moaning and nagging the whole trip up this mountain.

"Bella, we haven't even been on this Hike for more than fourty minutes." Cody sighed.
