Julien:
It's been a month since Jenna and I first talked about having a baby. Since that morning, we've done a lot of work. We planned things out. We've been looking at other houses to buy instead of renting this one. We've talked about how to financially accommodate a kid. We've also thought about little things. We've talked about how we'll eventually tell our fans. We've been picturing things like the dogs with a baby. We've talked about a baby moon to Big Bear. There's just one thing missing - a baby. We're not technically pregnant yet.
But today is the day we see if we are. Jenna went out and is buying a couple pregnancy tests. And I know there's a chance we might not be pregnant. Sometimes it takes a couple tries, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
"Juli! I'm back!" She opens the door and giddily runs into the den, where I'm sitting anxiously on my phone.
"Hi, babe!" I reply, standing up and walking over to her, to wrap her up in a hug. I pull her close to me and kiss her cheek. Then she plants a kiss on my lips, slowly and softly.
"Are you ready?" She smiles.
"I am. Are you?" I respond.
She nods. "Whatever happens, I love you." She promises, tapping my nose with her pointer finger. We haven't moved apart from our hugging stance, so I tickle her waist. "I bet I love you more."
"Owww!" She exclaims, grabbing my hand. "Let's go find out if we're parents." She says in a baby voice.
I follow her to the bathroom, where I, of course, make a joke about 'da butt' as she pulls down her pants.
"Julien!" She giggles in response, holding each syllable as if to say, "I love you, dork."
She pulls out the test from the shopping bag and unwraps it.
"Here we go." I breathe.
"Moment of truth." She replies her baby voice.
We sit there, me on the floor, her on the toilet, as she pees. I never thought watching my wife release her body's waste would be so heart wrenching. My phone timer is counting down from two minutes. After that, we can look at the test. The seconds drag on like hours.
59 seconds. I can't help but picture tiny feet. 52 seconds. I imagine Jenna's growing bump. 44. A gender reveal party. 37. Bringing our baby home for the first time. 29. Jenna making a video with our baby as a toddler. 22. Waking up in the middle of the night and Jenna kicking me to say, "It's your turn." 16. Feeding our baby a new baby food and watching them giggle. 12. Or if they don't like it, getting spit up on. 7. All of it. I want all of it. 4. The good and the bad.
"Ot?" Jenna asks. I look at her. "You're crying." She tells me.
I giggle and wipe my eyes and look at my phone.
"Otter, it's time." I say. She grabs the test from the counter. I see tears pricking at her eyes.
"Jenna? Happy tears?" I ask. My heart is pounding.
She flips the test around so I can see.
I can't believe my eyes.A/N
