I burst out into hysterical laughter.
"Oh my god you guys are freakin' adorable!"
"Yeah yeah..." Pony frowned and crossed his arms. Johnny was pretty funny because he blushed and smiled from ear to ear. I meant what I said too about them being adorable. Pony made a great blonde and Johnny... Johnny's hair looked so fluffy and soft I just wanted to pet it. He was pretty cute without that grease in his hair and it was shorter too. I actually really liked it like that. It made me smile a little more. I mean I liked his old hair too, but this made him look pretty nice too.
"Wow Johnny... I wasn't sure about this... But you look really cute," I blushed. "Can I touch your hair?"
"Be my guest," he smiled and put my hand on his head. Oh my gosh his hair is soft! It actually kind of made him look different in age too. Whether that was younger or older I couldn't really tell...
"Heh heh... So what did you get?" Johnny asked and I took my hand off of his head.
"Oh I got some more blankets and a bunch of canned food," I smiled. "However, we're about out of money..." I looked down.
"Oh that's okay. We'll live off the land if we have to," Johnny joked.
"Yeah because we have SO many survival skills smart one," Pony said and rolled his eyes.
"Oh you're such a girl Pony," I laughed.
"Actually I am not bad at surviving off the land. This wouldn't be the first time I've ran away. Remember that one time when you guys found me living by the train station?" Johnny asked. He had a point. He had some survival skills. More than Pony and I at least.
"Yeah?" Pony asked. After that we decided to hang outside. It was a nice day. Yeah, we were suppose to stay inside but we kept an eye for anyone. That is, until someone actually pulled up.
"Shit guys we need to go back inside," I panicked.
"Calm down now, that's just Dally," Johnny smiled.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, just look."
Wow, it really was Dallas. Thank god.
Dally got out of the car, "Now what in the hell happened!? What are you guys doing up here again?!" He wasn't happy.
"Sorry Dal... It's just..." Johnny began, but he was interrupted.
"It's just what!? I'm sick and tired of you guys always runnin' away like this!"
"Dally! Let him explain himself!" I butted in.
Dally just glared at me and shut up so Johnny could speak. I was a little shaky, because quite frankly, I was scared of Dallas Winston. I didn't think I could talk back to him like that.
After Johnny was done explaining everything, Dally calmed down.
He sighed, "Good for you kid. It sounded like that Soc had what was coming to him." Dally patted Johnny on the back. He wasn't bad at being comforting. "What do you say we light up a weed? Eh Johnny?" Dally smiled and pulled out a whole pack of cigarettes, handing one to Pony and one to Johnny.
"Thank you!" Pony was thrilled. "(Y/N) didn't buy any when she went shopping," Pony pouted.
"Oh shut it. I forgot o fuel your addiction," I rolled my eyes. I didn't see what was great about smoking. I had tried it once one time when Johnny offered to share his smoke. It was terrible. I almost threw up my lungs. Never again...
"What do you say we got out to eat at the Dairy Queen down the road? It's pretty good for being in a small town," Dally said. I could tell he was trying to lighten up the mood. I was glad too. I was glad to see Dally, even if he was an asshole sometimes.
"Yeah okay!" Ponyboy called out and hopped into the front seat of Dally's car. Johnny and I got into the back seat and Dallas started driving. This reminded me so much of when Johnny and I were up here the first time. It was really strange.
We pulled up to the drive-thru and Dally asked us all what we wanted. We told him and he ordered our food for us. We all ended up getting the same things as last time and this time I wasn't questioned for what I wanted. Wow, now this really reminded me of the first time. What this just going to become a tradition for us or something?
After a while of us talking and Dally finally mentioning and making fun of Ponyboy and Johnnycake's hair, we set off back to the church. But when we pulled up. we weren't expecting to see what we saw.
The church... It... It was... On... On fire!? Oh shit! Oh fuck! Oh shit fuck!
"Oh hell no," Dally started turning around when Pony jumped out of the car.
"Just where in the hell do you think you're going!?" Dally stopped the car.
"There's kids in there!" Pony called out. And he was right. There was a whole class of children inside and out of the burning building. Stupid teachers should be watching their damn kids so my friends don't have to save them.
"I'm going too!" Johnny said and jumped out.
"Oh no you're not!" But before I could grab his shirt collar he was already gone and inside the building.
"Idiots!" Dally jumped out of the car and ran after Pony and Johnny. Damnit! I was too scared to move. Should I stay? Should I go? I don't know! All I did was sunk deeply in my seat until-
"JOHNNY!" I heard both Pony and Dally scream in sync. I sprung up into action and ran to the church.
"I knew it! I knew it! He shouldn't have been a hero!" I thought to myself. "Where's Johnny??" I asked Pony and Dally. All they did was look at me and then looked at each other with scared expressions. Then they went back inside the church and pulled out a lifeless, limp, Johnny. He was badly burned.
"JOHNNY!" I quickly went up to him. This is my fault. This is all my fault. If I would have just helped and got them out of there...
