After a long day at school, I finally made it back home. When I walked through the front door, my mother ran out towards me screaming incoherent words. She seemed to be extremely excited for something. She grabbed my hands, jumping up and down, making me jump with her. "Oh, Maddie! My little girl is growing up so fast! You're finally going to be 16, and you know what that means, right?" She laughed.
"Yeah. Yeah. I know, but my birthday is tomorrow." I sighed, letting go.
"No. It's in a couple of hours." She laughed.
I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Hey, mom. Why are you being so excited for? If someone had walked in right now, they would think it's your birthday."
"Oh come on, sweetie! You're going to be 16! Why aren't you excited?" She pouted at me.
"Don't worry. Mentally, I am. Anyways, I'm going upstairs to do homework." I sighed again before heading up.
"Oh. O-okay honey, dinner will be ready soon." She informed me.
Walking down the hallway to my room, passing the first door on the left, my sister, Amelia, opened her door and stuck her head out. "Hey, sis! Are you excited-"
"I don't want to talk about it." I grumbled, walking in to my room and closing my door.
I slumped down beside my shut door and sighed. 'Why are things turning out like this?'
In this world, during this time, the government was just a load of bullsh*t, treating us as if we were livestock, telling us when to breed or who to breed with. They have a system that have already arranged our marriage to whomever we're most compatible with. No one really knows who their partners are until the day of their 16th birthday, but here is the thing, not all individuals receive the message on their birthday. Majority of the time, it's because your partner is not of age yet, but rarely, there'll be some who are not compatible with anyone. So that means that they are not paired with anybody... If you ask me, I find this society to be pretty stupid.
I got up from the place I sat and walked over to my bed. I lied down, closing my eyes, drifting off into a deep slumber.

"Mason, don't go. Don't weeve me." I cried, holding onto his small fingers.
"Maddie, it's okay. I gots to go. Daddy, told me I gots to go, but I'll come back for chu. I promise." He smiled sadly at me.
"B-But I don't wants chu to go! I don't wants to wait! I don't wants to be left behind!" I cried even louder.
"Maddie, it's okay. I promise."
"P-pinky swears?" I asked.
"I pinky swears." He said, locking his pinky with mine.
"Mason, huwwy! We gonna miss our flight!" Natalie whined.
"Waits!" Mason shouted back. "I will never forget chu, I promise that I will find chu when I come back. I have to go now. I'm gonna be late, I'll miss chu Maddie!"
"Bye bye. Mason, I waits for chu!" I shouted.
I turned away, but before I could walk away, someone held me back, hugging me from behind. "I wuv chu, Maddie. I will come back for chu."
I jolted upward from my bed, staring at my blank pink wall. "Dr-dream... It was all just a dream." I huffed.
"Maddie, Lia! Dinner is ready!" My mother shouted from downstairs.
"I'm coming." Amelia shouted, closing her door.
"I'll be down in a minute." I shouted, walking to the bathroom.
