Stiles stood outside of the house with Scott and Derek standing beside him. He knew they were running out of time but he couldn't get his legs to move. The day had moved too fast and Stiles still didn't know what they were going to do.
"I'm not sure if there's a way out of this." Stiles ran his fingers through his hair. "We've just gotten lucky so far. If you can even call it luck."
"I don't know why you doubt yourself so much. You've already brought us this far." Scott placed his hand on Stiles shoulder trying to reassure him.
"When I didn't know how dangerous it was. Deucalion basically holds our lives in his hands. If we don't give him what he wants he'll make life hell."
"Things were hell before this place. We can take it." Derek added.
"We can't give that ass what he wants. Not if it means he'll destroy this place and who knows what else." Stiles turned his face away from the house and looked at Scott.
"He threatened Isaac. Can you live with that?" Scott looked down at his feet. He didn't need to answer the question.
"Where is Isaac any way? I thought he'd be here for this." Derek looked around the yard.
"Maybe he's doing the smart thing and staying away. I don't even want to think about the damage Deucalion could cause." Stiles felt the knot in his gut.
"Then we have to do something Stiles. We have to protect ourselves and if we give him what he wants we still won't be safe." Stiles let Scott's words sink in and shook his head.
"You're right."
"I am?"
"Maybe it's luck or maybe it's destiny or something, but we made it this far for a reason. So if the next step we take leads to death at least we went down fighting."
"Dying?" Scott swallowed hard.

Stiles took a deep breath and quickly knocked on the office door. They stood in the silence of the hall waiting for Deucalion to make a move. After a few more moments of silence Stiles thought of knocking when a voice spoke through the door.
"Come in boys." Stiles grabbed the doorknob opening the door to reveal the danger that stirred on the other side.
Isaac laid on the floor holding onto his side his teeth clenched to help fight back the pain. Deucalion stood above him with a grin gracing his face.
"What did you do!?" Scott lunged forward but Derek was quick to reach out and stop Scott.
"Shut the door." Deucalion ordered. Stiles closed the door quickly. "Isaac and I were just having a nice little talk." Deucalion leaned down placing his hand on Isaac's shoulder "Weren't we Isaac?" Deucalion patted Isaac's curls and stood up. Scott clenched his fists. It was Derek that spoke up first.
"What do you think hurting Isaac will do? He hasn't done anything."
"Isaac's done plenty. For example he was a huge help in finding something I had... misplaced." Deucalion walked around to his desk and pulled open a door. Seconds later he pulled out the orthodox. They all felt their hearts sink. They were too late. It was over.
" I didn't give it to him. I promise. He followed me and made me..."
"Shut up boy!" Deucalion yelled. Isaac flinched at the volume of the man's voice. Scott couldn't just stand there any longer. He pulled away from Derek's grip and joined Isaac on the floor. Stiles had finally seen enough.
"What's the plan then? Open the box and then what?"
"That's a great question." He placed the orthodox on the desk. "There's rumors about this box." Deucalion dances his hands on top of the box. "The one consistent thing that follows the stories is the promise of a great power."
"This is all for power? You don't even care who you hurt?" Scott spoke from the ground as he held onto Isaac.
"It's not for power you stupid child. Let's just call it a... curiosity. Don't worry boys; this will be life changing. You could be witnessing history right now."
"Should we get the popcorn?" Stiles offered.
Deucalion gave Stiles an un-amused grin and picked up the orthodox.
"I'd grab a seat boys. I'm not sure what'll happen next."

It was as if all the oxygen in the room had been absorbed. The sound and light extinguished. All that could be heard was a loud rushing noise filling their ears. The overwhelming pain had them all against the floor holding their ears letting out noiseless screams. Derek's hand searched the floor to find Stiles and when he did Derek didn't let go. Scott laid over Isaac unsure if his gesture would be of any use against this darkness. Soon papers and other objects were being thrown across the room. An empty wind swept across them. When it seemed the pain would become unbearable everything stopped.
Stiles slowly lifted his head opening his eyes to see the damage. As soon as his eyes opened it felt as if a hand had gripped around his neck and he swallowed back a scream. Derek's hand was no longer in his own. He was alone.

Author's Note:
Thank you so much for sticking with me! I know it has been forever and I've been promising new chapters and failing. I know it's not a lot but this is a sort of introduction into the craziness that will be the next chapter.
