It was time for Lunch by the time they had finally stopped next to a river bank. They all received a brown sack lunch that contained peanut butter and jelly, a small bag of potato chips, an apple and a cookie. Stiles sat on a large rock finishing his lunch, he threw the trash in a pocket of his bag, and stayed in place watching the others around him. Derek sat under the shade of a tree with his eyes closed, maybe he was asleep, but most likely he was avoiding any human interaction. Lydia sat by the edge of the water with her food in her lap and a book in her hand. Boyd was looking at maps and other papers while Scott, Isaac and Alison splashed around in the water.
“Come on Stiles! The waters great!” Scott yelled as he held onto Alisons wrist splashing water at her face, She laughed and splashed back. Stiles got up from the rock and ran to the water splashing as he reached them. Isaac let out a howl and Scott followed and Stiles did the same. They all laughed hysterically as they goofed around.
“Watch it! Your getting my book wet!” Lydia yelled from the bank.
“Why don’t you come in? Don’t you read enough already?” Isaac asked as he held Scott in a headlock.
“Come on Lyd! It’s fun and the water feels great.” Alison smiled as she shook the water from her hair. Lydia took a deep breath and closed her book.
“I don’t want to mess up my hair.” With that she stood and walked back to Boyd and her bag shoving the book inside and taking a seat next to him.
The others shrugged it off and continued to have fun. Stiles couldn’t believe how much fun it was just to let go and with no substance to help. This is what happy felt like, maybe he would like it here. A half an hour passed and Boyd finally pulled them from the water and continued the hike further into the woods.
The sun was starting to sink behind the trees when they had finally stopped in a clearing for the night. They set up the tents and put together a fire pit from large stones they had found during their travels. Scott and Isaac found a few logs and dragged them out of the trees to use as seats. Stiles had just finished rolling out his sleeping bag when Derek stuck his head in.
“Looks like we're camping together.” He entered the rest of the way and pulled a blanket from his bag and rolled it out. Stiles wondered why he didn’t have the same necessities as the rest of them but it was a dumb question he would probably never ask and Derek would probably never answer. That’s when something else crept in; last night.
“What do you think that was all about last night?” Derek raised his eyebrow letting Stiles know he couldn’t believe he was bringing it up again.
“It was probably something for the school, like for the plumbing or something.” He laid back on his blanket folding his hands behind his head.
“Yeah, but why come that late? I’ve never even heard of an Orthodox, what the hell is that?”
“It’s pertaining to or conforming to the approved form of any doctrine, philosophy or ideology.” Lydia spoke from the open tent flap.
“Thanks Albert but what are you doing in our tent?” Derek spoke up not moving from his position.
“Boyd sent me to get Stiles. He wants you and Scott to go collect some wood for a fire.” She stepped back out and Stiles was quick on her heels.
“Are you sure that’s what it means?”
“What?” She asked turning suddenly stopping Stiles right on his toes. They were so close he could feel the heat of her body. She looked up with her usual pout.
“Orthodox? It’s religious?”
“Well yeah, basically, Christianity, Philosophy, why?”
“No reason. I just heard the word and wanted to know what it meant.”
