"Go put your leftovers in the fridge," my mom says and I do as I'm told. My aunt took us out to a nice restaurant for my birthday, but there was no way I could finish all of the food on my own. Jared had to put his in the fridge, too.

"I never asked, what did Zayn get you for your birthday?" My mom asks.

"Uh, some earrings," I say and smile sheepishly.

"Shea, why do you look like that?" My mom asks.

"Like what?" I ask.

"You look embarrassed.. Did something happen with Zayn?" She asks.

"Uh, yeah, actually," I admit.

"Shea, tell me what happened," she says and pats the open seat next to her on the couch. I hesitantly sit down and cross my leg.

"I broke up with him today," I tell her.

"And did this have to do with a curly haired British boy?" She asks and I nod.

"Noah and I kissed at a party the other day, and somebody caught a picture," I tell her.

"You were at a party? Was there alcohol? Or drugs? Shea, were you drinking?" She asks like any concerned mother would.

"No mom, I wasn't drinking," I lie. I'm only seventeen. I don't need my mother to know about my 'wild antics'.

"Good, so ..Noah and you?" She asks.

"We, Im not sure, yesterday Zayn hit Logan because he thought he was Noah," I start and she nods, "and Zayn didn't tell me about anything so I found out last night about the same time that Noah did," I say.

"And Noah is the one with the butterfly tattoo?" She asks.

"Yeah, well, when Noah found out that Zayn hit his brother he was sort mad and yelled at me, so he came over here to apologize when he asked me to break up with Zayn," I say. My mom is really good to talk to about my problems. I'm glad that we get along well.

"And when I broke up with Zayn today after school, he got really mad and threw the earrings on the ground," I tell her.

"Did you keep them?" She asks.

"Yeah, it would be rude to throw them out," I tell her and she nods in agreement.

"You know, you've only known Harry for two weeks," she points out.

"It's Noah. And I know," I correct her.

"And you've known Zayn for three years," she says.

"Once again mum, I know," I tell her.

"I'm not your 'mum', I'm your 'mom'," she tells me and I smile, "and even though you've known Zayn longer, it doesn't mean you have to like him more, time can't change happiness," she says. She has a point.

"Thanks mom," I say and smile.

"So, are you and Noah dating now?" She asks.

"No, Im not really sure what we're doing," I admit.

"Well why don't you go find out?" She says and uses her thumb to point behind her in the direction of the Styles' house.

"Oh! I need to go over there anyways!" I say and remember that Logan and I are partnering on another geography project even though it's my birthday, I still need to do homework.

"Good luck," mom says and I hug her.

"Thanks for the talk mu-om," I catch my mistake.

"No problem," she says and waves as I walk out the door.
