Emma's POV
I was just leaving my third bell math class, and was heading to English, stopping at my locker on the way. I threw in my math books, and grabbed out my English ones.

I shut my locker and started walking to my English class. I had 3 minutes left, but it only took 30 seconds to get there from my locker.

I took my time walking, when I noticed someone walking right beside me at the exact speed. That's weird, usually the people around me are really slow, even when I'm going slow.

I look over and it's Killian. I almost forgot that we had English together. I groaned as I remembered.

"What's the matter Swan, not happy to see me?" He smirked

"Honestly I kinda forgot you were in my English class, and I can't handle a whole lot more of you than I already do."

He put his hand on his chest, and faked being hurt. We had gotten to the door, and Killian bowed slightly saying,"After you."

I smiled a sarcastic smile, then went in and sat in my seat that was in the back left of the classroom. Killian's was in the front right, right next to the teacher's desk, imagine that.

The bell rang, and Ms.French walked in and shut the door behind her."Hello everyone, today we are doing a project." Everyone groaned. "You will be working with a partner of your choice to-" Some kids cut her off with 'Yes's and 'Yeah's and everyone else was looking around the room at who they wanted their partner to be, and were giving each other short little nods.

I laid my head on my arms on the desk, but still tuned in to the directions. I have to admit, if Ruby were in that class, I would be looking at her for confirmation of being partners, but this was one of the few classes we didn't have together.

"You will be researching a famous writer, poet, playwright, or something along those lines, and you will make a PowerPoint presentation to the class about that person and their works. You will have the rest of class today and tomorrow to work on it. It will be due on Friday. I am passing out the rubric now." I put up my head, and grabbed a paper from the person in front of me.

I usually wait for the one person no one wants to partner up with, or the third wheel from a 3 person friend group, but this time someone came to me. Their shadow loomed over the desk.

"Hey Swan, wanna be my partner?"

"Why not Killian. I usually do all the work when I have a partner anyway." I smiled mockingly at him.

"I'll help." He said, getting defensive.

"Alright, alright, you'll help. You can come over to my house tonight and we'll work on it then."

"Okay, who are we going to do the project on?"

"I don't know... Hang on." I grabbed a book off of Ms.French's bookshelf, that was titled Famous Playwrights and Poets Throughout History.

"Close your eyes." I said opening the book to a random page.

"What are you doing?"

"Well you are going to pick our person. Put out your finger and put it somewhere on the book."

He did as he was told and landed on William Shakespeare. He opened his eyes,"Oh this is gonna be easy."

"Yeah, even if you don't help me."

He gave me a joking death glare."I promise I will help you." He put a hand on his heart, and the other up in the air, like a boy scout pledge.

"Okay then, let's get to work. Go grab that William Shakespeare book, and put this one back." I handed him the book I had grabbed.

"As you wish, m'lady." He mocked, as he backed away while bowing.

Killian bent over to get a book that was lower down on the shelf, and I saw a few girls staring, granted he did have a nice ass. He returned with two books on William Shakespeare.

I opened one up and put it in front of me."You know a lot of girls stare at you for a living." I laughed at myself, while still facing the book.

"And are you one of them?" He joked.

"Nah, not really my type. The whole jock persona."

"I'm not just a jock you know. I'm actually kinda smart in some areas, I mean I'd have to be to be in this class with you." He smirked.

I felt myself blush slightly,"Thanks?"

"You're welcome, now let's get to work."

"Fine by me." I said, reading through the information in the book.

We worked the rest of the time in silence, almost. Occasionally he would make a joke, or tell me that he found some stuff, and to write it down. I offered to write down stuff for the both of us because his writing is terrible and neither of us could read it.

Time went by fast, and soon the bell rung, and I put the paper with all of the information in my folder, while Killian put the books back.

Again when he leaned down, girls were watching, more this time. Half of the girls were staring at his ass like horny apes, and the other half were glaring at me like I just took the last cookie.

Killian and I walked out of the room together, and back to our lockers. I took longer than him to grab all the stuff I would need, and throw it in my backpack. While I was doing that, Killian waited for me by my locker.

"I would've waited by your car, but it's actually really cold outside." He smirked.

"Alright, I have everything, let's go." I grabbed my keys, and started walking to the doors, and out to my car, when Killian grabbed the keys and ran in front of me. He ran to the car, got in the drivers seat, started the car, then went to the passengers seat.

When I got in the car, I noticed that Killian had turned on the heat, and warmed up the car a bit. It was still cold, but not as cold as it would have been.

I drove to my house, then took him inside. I had completely forgotten about my dad.

"Emma! Who's this?" He asked, putting his hand on my shoulder, and looking at Killian.

"This is Killian, dad. Don't kill him, I need him for a project in English."

"Oh c'mon, you're smart Emma, do you really need Killian?" He joked, putting his other hand on Killian's shoulder now. Killian looked really nervous, and scared.

"Yes dad, now please let go of Killian so we can get some work done." I grabbed one of Killian's arms, and dragged him into the kitchen, and set my stuff on the island.

"I'll be right back, I'm going to grab my computer. Call if you need anything." I said as I ran up to my room.

I didn't think much of it then, but later I realized I had left Killian alone to deal with my overprotective father, even if it was only for a minute.
