The original story: "I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, 'Daddy, check for monsters under my bed.' I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, 'Daddy, there's somebody on my bed.'"
Well, when you first read that story, it seems like there were two of his one son, making it seem like one of them was a monster. Think again.
What really happened: "I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, 'Daddy, check for monsters under my bed.' I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him. This time I say, 'Oh, what are you doing in there? Stop trying to scare your daddy and your twin brother.' He grumbled and goes back to his room next door."
So in the end, it was merely a twin brother attempting to scare his brother and father by hiding under the bed.
