Narrators POV
Vegeta and Goku sat silent in the dark, watching each other. They'd been in the cave for about two hours now, and both were having an intense staring contest. Though of course Goku lost...
"Aww!! Why is it that you alway's win Vegeta?! I mean seriously, show a little mercy....""idiot, you can't give mercy in a staring match, it doesn't work that way!" "Well how was I suppose to know?!" "Kakarot we've been doing staring matches since we got in here!" " * pouts * hmph"
The full moon outside glowed brightly as clouds cleared its path. Everything was silent except for the occasional howling of a wolf or the whispering hoot of an owl. It was calm. To calm.
Vegeta crossed his arms as he positioned himself in his spot. They'd have to wait till morning before either could leave the cave. Goku painfully stretched out his arms as far as he could. They ached and his feet throbbed. His lungs stung and his heart still skid a few beats. The run he had to do costed a price, but he thought that if it meant his survival, than it was worth it. But it would take time for his body to settle back to its original state. As Goku yawned, sleep already starting to get to him, he noticed Vegeta watched him with interest. He tilted his head as he stared back at the Prince. "Uhh, Vegeta? Is something wrong, why are you staring at me?" He saw Vegeta seem to think for a moment, before the saiyan spoke. "You're tired." Goku scrunched his nose slightly. "No I'm not, I'm just worn out! That run you forced me to do did alot to me, and the affects are just now catching up!" "There's no difference, if you don't sleep, you'll eventually pass out. And besides, we need to leave as soon as day break arrives." "But-!" "No buts Kakarot!" Goku frowned, and Vegeta sighed. "Look.... I'll take tonights shift, you get some rest. It wont do any good to just sit and argue, it might attract attention." Vegeta gave Goku a stern look. Goku huffed and layed down. "Fine." Vegeta never usually acted very caring towards Goku, but over the years, Goku learned that when Vegeta starts actually giving him 'advice' and acts serious, than it's best to listen. No matter the reason.
Vegeta watched as Goku shuffled a bit and slowly drifted off to sleep. He had to admit it was incredible how fast Goku could actually pass out. One second he can be bright eyed, and smiling wide, then the next thing you know, he's snoring at your feet.
(Time Skippy! ^.^)
Vegeta sat at the cave's entrance, watching and listening carefully. The peaceful, soft snore's of Goku behind him kept him alert. He'd been sitting here for about three hours now, and he guessed day break would arrive soon. After a short while, without a sign of danger, he decided to crawl out. A risky move, but there was no point in staying cooped up in the grounded cave the entire time.
As Vegeta slowly stood, stretching his back in the open space, the cold wind blew through his hair. A few leaves flew past silently. It was so quiet. Vegeta took a few steps forwards, surveiling the area. His keen senses were open and alert, and were tracking every little movement and sound around him. He walked over to a tree, and layed against it, sliding down the trunk and sitting on the ground. He pulled his knees to his chest and rested his crossed arms on them. He sat there for a few minutes.
As the air begin to grow tense, he suddenly caught the sent of something. And a very familiar sent indeed. Vegeta darted around frantically, looking in very direction. Except up. He heard a low growl, more of snarl actually, and he felt the sense that he was being watched. Suddenly he could feel the hot breath of something against his neck. He gasped and jumped up, turning around to look. His eyes widened at the site. Right above him, their eyes glowing sharply, crouched two familiar creatures. 'No.... it couldn't be...' the two creature's Vegeta stared back at were one's he was very well familiar with. A black, slick feline, with two big eyes, and a broad, thin, pale colored dog. Bee and Scratch. Mr Satan's dog and Bulma's Father's cat. Vegeta couldn't believed it. Now animal's were getting infected to?!
Vegeta stood frozen. Scratch looked down upon him with hungry eyes, ready to pounce. Bee shaped viciously at him, drool slowly dripping down to the ground. They were both thin and hungry. Vegeta looked back at the cave, and could see the shadowy figure of a sleeping Goku, who had no idea what was happening. He gulped and turned back to Bee and Scratch. The two animal's prepared to pounce. Vegeta steadied himself, before taking a deep breath. He took two steps back before making a run for it.
Scratch was the first to lung after him, swiftly running against the soft ground. Bee had a bit of difficulty getting down from the tree, but once he did, he followed close after. Vegeta could hear the two trudging after him. He couldn't attack. Even if he did a tiny Ki blast, it would still be enough to expose his and Goku's hiding spot. He ran and darted under/ into the cave. He acted fast, rushing to Goku. He shook him roughly. "Kakarot!! Get up Kakarot, hurry!" Goku awoke with a jolt, and gasped. He looked to Vegeta "what, what is it?!" "Look!!" Goku followed Vegeta's pointed finger, and his face went pale at what he saw. Bee and Scratch clawed viciously at the ground, trying to gain access. Even Scratch had trouble to get in. But they tore open the cave opening with ease, they're blood shot eye's never leaving Vegeta's and Goku's.
Goku started hypervenilating, as he and Vegeta pushed themselves as far back into the cave as possible. "Vegeta, what do we do?! We can't attack them without flaring Ki!!" Vegeta gave Goku a fearful, but serious look. "....We can't shoot with Ki blast's. But i bet we can use normal Martial arts to hold them off!" Vegeta made a first with his hand, grinning. Goku smirked. Their attention turned back to the two invaders as they heard them slip in. Bee charged at them and jumped at them. "Alright Kakarot, ready?!" Goku nodded back. Bee lung at them, snapping his jaws. Vegeta shot forwards, ducking under him. Bee hit smack into the cave wall. He yelped out, before landing shakily on his paws. He snarled and went for another attack, but not before Goku could reach out quickly and wrap his arms around the frail dogs body. Bee thrashed furiously, biting in every direction. Goku tried his best to keep his grip on the pooch.
Vegeta watched on, and as he heading over to finish the job, he heard a hissing groan. He hesitantly looked up, and his face stiffened. Right above his head, once again, looked down Scratch. The cat had used the spare time that Bee gave to somehow climb up the cave walls and latch onto the ceiling, his claws digging into the stone. Scratch waisted no time and with a shrilled shreik, lunged down. He didn't even give Vegeta time to react, as his claws digged into the side of the Prince's face. Vegeta cried out, and desperately tried to hold Scratch's jaws away from him. Goku stared at Vegeta with surprise. "Vegeta!!" He had to get to him fast. But Bee wouldn't stop squirming, and he didn't seem to even be in the least bit tired. "Grr....." Goku looked down at the flailing pooch with sad eyes. He didn't want to do it. But he had no choice. He breathed in a shaky breath. "I'm sorry for this..." as if he understood, Bee actually gave an almost desperate look of his own. But before the dog could think, his ribs were painfully crushed, his lungs collapsing instantly. The dog screamed out, but it cries were cut off with the sharp sound of a * Crack!! *. Goku dropped the lifeless body of his former animal friend down. He turned away quickly, not being able to bare the site. Bee's mouth dripped of thick blood, and his chest looked like it was dented as if it were a soda can, and a rib peirced through his flesh, sticking out stiffly. Blood oozed from the dog's side, and the cave was soon filled with the smell of warm crimson.
Vegeta held onto the scruff of Scratch's neck fiercely, as the cat swung left to right, his claws cutting and digging away at what ever flesh they could reach. Trails of blood dripped from the side's of Vegeta's head, and his lip had been sliced open cleanly, a stream of blood flowing down his chin to his neck. He couldn't belive he was losing to a cat! Then again, he was only using his bare fist's. Vegeta leaned against the cave wall, holding the cat at bay. But his slick, white gloves made it hard to keep a grip on the back of the cat's neck, as Scartch shook and screetched out with might. The cat somehow missed Vegeta's eyes each time it went for an attack.
Vegeta could feel his grip loosening quickly, and he knew that if he lost it, Scratch would indeed bite him. And it would only be a matter of time before he turned. "Gck-! K-Kakarot!! Hurry up!" Vegeta shouted agitated. But soon after he called out, his ear's were filled with the sound of a sharp, dog like scream. And he quickly noticed afterwards, that Scratch had left his hold.
And then he realized he was staring at the lifess, black body of a cat, who's neck had been snapped clean, it's eye's opened wide and filled with what could only be described as pure terror.
