After breakfast, the girls all had their own lessons, but Caroline had agreed that Ella should take some rest, so she decided to learn more about witch history so she went to the library a huge room with endless books on spells, potions, covens and witch history. Ella found a book about the last century of witches and found a place to sit in the bay window she placed the book on her knee as she read about the witches of the past and all the amazing things, they had done with their abilities she was amazed some of the chapters started with paintings of the witch that the next chapter was about. Near the back of the book, Ella found a chapter on a witch the book named Joanna Fellows the painting of her was faded slightly but Ella read on
Joanna was an orphan she never knew her parents she was found in a small town when the People that took her in found out that she had the gift of magic they sent her away she wandered through the wood until she found her way to this witch house where she was shown her gift was the power of bonding (already Ella was amazed at the similarities between her and Joanna) Joanna was placed in a coven with some older witches but never found her family. As Joanna grew older and stronger with her coven but she longed to see what was outside the world of the witches so she ran away from the witches and toward the human town where she had been found as she did she saw many people and one person she saw many times a man no older than herself Joanna knew she couldn't stay in the town but when she returned to the witches she couldn't stop thinking about the man she saw so she returned they kept meeting in secret and they fell in love when Joanna was 25 she decided to tell her love the truth and run from the witches and to be with him always no which knows what happened to Joanna next her coven never heard from her again but they believed that she was alive as they still felt her power inside them. Joanna was a very power which and it was believed when she came to the witches that she was part of a prophecy that her coven could save us from a terrible war, but the witches live in hope that Joanna found happiness and that may be a descendant of hers is the bonding power that we have been waiting for.
Ella just looked at the picture of Joanna for a while she did not know how long she had been sat there but she came back to the real world by her coven sisters surrounding her and saying her name "Ella what's wrong?" Emily said calmly Ella just looked at them then the book and back again she let the girls read what she just had when Katelyn had finished readings she turned to look at the picture of Joanna then at Ella "you can't really see her face but in figure you do kind of look alike" "so you guys think the same as I did that somehow I'm related to Joanna" Ella said looking at all her friends "it's a possibility we should ask Claire to see if she knows" Rose said taking Ella's hands in hers
The girls stood huddled together outside Claire's office Ella had never seen a door that made her feel so nervous before but this large wooden door with moon and stars engraved into it made them all feel small and like little children Caroline's desk was empty so Emily built up her courage and knocked on the door it echoed inside what was clearly a big room after a few moments they hurt smaller echo's they guessed Claire was walking to the door the door began to creek then it slowly opened "oh girls" "forgive us for just turning up at your door Claire but we have a very pressing question for you" Emily again with her courage taking charge of the situation "well then come on in" Claire said stepping sideways to allow the girls to walk in. Ella looked around Claire's office it was mostly wooden wood floor and walls the walls were lined with paintings just like the room Ella had first meet Claire in. Claire lead the girls to her desk again made of wood with a large chair behind it Claire sat on the chair and the girls stood in front of the desk "so girls what question is so pressing on your minds that you had to see me straight away" Ella swallowed and made herself speak "I was in the library reading up on witch history and I found this" Ella handed the book to Claire and opened on the chapter about Joanna Claire didn't have to read the chapter it was clear from her face when she saw the picture of Joanna that she knew all about her. Claire smiled a little and walked to one of the paintings hanging on the left wall the girls joined her Ella looked at the painting and her heart ached "that's her that's Joanna Claire I think you know the question I wish to ask you" Ella said moving her gaze from the painting to Claire "yes Ella i do know your question and the answer to it" all the girls looked at Claire in amazement "I do believe that you are Joanna's great-granddaughter" Ella wanted to fall to the floor her legs and heart had gone to jelly "how can you be so sure?" "because I have read this book myself whenever we get a new witch here especially when she has been raised with humans and Ella you are the most powerful binding power, we have found in a long time but I'm afraid of how we can truly tell you are Joanna's great-granddaughter or not" "and how do we do that?" "the legend of Joanna's lineage says that her descent will help lead us into a great war between humans and be faced with the choice between truly siding with the witches or someone she cares for in the human army" "well then, we know she is not Joanna's great-granddaughter because Ella would never do that to us would you Ella?" Holly said putting her arms round Ella "of course not" Ella said just as the words left her mouth she thought of Ethan but Ethan would never fight her not after saying he still wanted her in his life would he "i really hope that you are not Joanna's great granddaughter Ella I know you want more answers of why you have powers and your sister and mother and father do not but for all our safety i really hope your story isn't tried to Joanna's" "as do i" Ella said turning to the girls they all look confused at her Ella answered there unanswered question of what she meant "I mean this place my coven, my friends, it's the first place in so long that feels like home where I'm loved and where I belong but I'm not gonna lie there are people humans from my past that i care about my friends from before my isolation my sister so I'm hoping that if the battle we all saw in our vision doesn't included someone I care for cause as much as I already love you all i don't think i can chose between any of my friends so i really hope it doesn't come to that" no one said anything but Katelyn stepped forward and hugged Ella just as Ella wrapped her arms around Katelyn and accepted the hug the rest of the coven join in a group hug as the girls released each other Rose kept her hand on Ella's shoulder and said "we would never make you chose what kind of friends would we be if we did that to you, you are our sister in magic and in friendship and Ella we all love you" Ella smiled
