4 Months Later
Rita POV
I walked into the rehab center and stood there for a minute. My mother put her hands on my shoulders. I turned to face her. She smiled.
"You're getting out. Now you can see Chris and Chris."
"Never said I wanted to see Big Chris." I mumbled. My mother rolled her eyes.
"Hush child. Come on. We are having lunch as a family."
"Just us?"
"If us is you, me, your brother, and your father, yes."
"Yay." I didn't want to see anyone else. I said truthfully.
"Not even your son?"
I looked at her. "Mum, Chris isn't coming is he?"
"Yes he is. I also heard he was bringing his mother and Royalty. Isn't it exciting?"
"No. Mum why would you do something like that. You know how things are with us. He wouldn't let me see our son."
"That was for the best."
"For who?"
"You and Chris. Why would a child want to see his parent in a place so depressing?"
"He's 5 months old. He's not going to understand."
"So? But I was mainly saying it was better for Chris. Big Chris."
"Oh."
"Yeah, you don't have nothing to say now."
"Mum." I looked at her. She grabbed one if my bags. "Chris doesn't want to see me. He told me clearly that one day."
"Its been 4 months. People change their minds."
"Chris doesn't."
"He obviously did because technically, I didn't invite him to come to lunch. He offered."
"I'm sorry what?" I asked. I put my bag in the trunk.
"I didn't want you to see Chris Jr immediately but, Chris reached out to me and asked if he could come. With the kids and his mother." I bit the inside of my cheek.
"You're lying?" I asked unsure.
"Why would I lie about something so important to you?" She asked pinching my cheek.
"Come on before we are late." She got in the drivers side. I slowly walked to the passengers side and got in. After 30 minutes, we pulled up to my apartment. My mother got out and grabbed a bag and waited for me. I grabbed the other bags and closed the trunk.
We walked into the building. The doorman clapped. "Welcome back Ms. Sacagawea." He said. I smiled thinking about Chris. "Someone dropped this off for you and they told me to only give it to you. Nobody else. So here." He handed me a piece of paper. He smiled.
"Thanks." I said and I walked onto the elevator. My mother stood there. Then I pressed the 6 floor button and waited for the doors to open again.
Once it did, I walked to my door only for Chris's mother's door opened. His mother looked at me and smiled. "Hey sweetheart." She said. She hugged me. I smiled and inhaled a familiar the scent.
"Hi Ms. Joyce."
"I missed you. And your accent. Pretty sure Chris did too but, idk. He always denies his feelings for anyone."
"Are you sure? Chris really didn't like me before I left."
"He was mad because he cares. You hurt many people and he just wanted you to be OK. So everyone else can be OK."
"Is Cj OK?" I croaked thinking about it.
She looked at me before smiling. "Yeah. He had surgery and it worked. He hasn't had anything scary recently prayfully nothing like that will ever happen ever again."
"Oh."
"Its OK. You did something bad, but things are getting better. I promise. Now get ready to go to lunch babe. I know you hungry after eating their nasty old food. Did they season it?" She asked. I shook my head and she smiled. "Hmmm. Trying to get them sober from seasoning two? They were torturing y'all. I'm glad you're out. Ro was asking about you."
"I missed Ro. She was my mother other little one I missed."
"Well you don't have to miss her for long." I heard a voice say. Royaty came to the door. Chris behind her. I looked at him. "Hey Ri."
"Hey."
"Come Rita, we're going to have to make lunch later. You taking too long." My mother said.
"Coming."
"Make sure you read that paper Rita." Chris said as Ms. Joyce closed the door.
