The next morning...
I don't know what was going on in my mind as we rode to Scaleswind the following day, but I couldn't stop thinking about my family. I had no one, and it was all my fault...
It's also kinda hard to cope with everything going on with a boy constantly looking over your shoulder asking if everything is okay. I just started to tune him out though.
"You know you can't ignore me forever?" Aiden touched my shoulder.
"Touch me again and you'll be sitting in that seat forever." I turned my back.
"I understand that your stressed out right now, but talking about it can help."
"What do you even know about me...?! You can't help me..."
"Laura please..."
I ignored him for the rest of the ride to Scaleswind which lasted about two days. As we arived, I looked up to see the kingdom-like village before me with tower after tower and building after building, you could tell this was a power house in the region.
"I haven't been here in a long time..." I said making my way out of the boat that had taken us here.
"Hey wait!" Aiden grabbed my hand and pulled me back on the ship.
"What do you need?" I urged to get off.
"People might be looking for you here... We need you disguise you-" He paused looking straight at me.
"What are you looking at..?"
"You hair... Its blue and brown?" He asked.
"Yeah but I'm surprised you didn't notice."
"We need to cut it off.."
I slapped him across the head "WHAT NO WAY AIDEN!"
"OUCH!" He yelled, "WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!"
"YOU LAY A SINGLE HAND ON ME I SWEAR!"
"Look Laura, I'm suggesting that we cut off the blue part of your hair... Not all of it, because it really makes you stand out if you have BLUE hair..."
I touched my hair and looked at him "....Fine"
We cut off my blue locks and I barely even recognized myself. I didn't wanna cut it off because I was over protective of my looks, but it was like a part of me. I was able to look at myself and see my mother, now I see nothing but an individual trying to survive with nothing but her bare skin and follower.
Aiden looked at me and nodded "I know you miss her..."
We made out way into the town square of Scaleswind admiring all of the beauty surrounding us. All of the homes and towers over-looking the horizon, but the thing that stood out the most was everyone staring at us. I was confused and wondering what made us different from everyone else... Then I got it. We entered the castle in the middle of the Village and next thing I knew I was standing before the lord of Scalewind, or what I had thought was the lord.
"Where is my father?" Aiden questioned.
A guard walked forward "Lord Dmitri is resting in his bedroom due to an illness outbreak in Scaleswind, why did you come here boy and who is this? Are you two together? Oh my Lord Dmitri will be overjoyed to meet you! I'll tell him of your arrival right now!"
"No! Wait... She is just a friend..." Aiden grabbed the guards wrist, "but I do request that I see my father urgently."
"I see... Very well, follow me." The guard led us to a large bedroom lined with gold and silver with a red silk bed and a sealing about fifteen feet high. In the bed I saw a man with blue hair with grey and white pieces, frail and unhealthily-pail skin, and dead eyes slowly turning a ghostly white.
"My son... You know your not welcomed here.." The man attempted to sit up but began to cough a ton as if he was trying to cling onto the last bit of life.
"That's a risk I'll have to take- But dad what is happening to you?!" Aiden ran over to his side.
"I don't want anything to do with you, you monster but I need you to leave... The Forsterlium plague is spreading from the Tu'la Region to Scaleswind due to refugees and I don't want the heir to the Scaleswind thrown to be overcome with this sickness." The man laid back down, "I don't have much time left my boy, and your mother has left us both... You need to be alive to take this thrown when I'm gone... You need to become lord of Scaleswind."
Aiden slowly began to back away from his father "I can't... I CANT!" He bolted out of the room with tears in his eyes.
"AIDEN WAIT!" I ran behind him as he exited the building and sped across the village to a nearby lake "Are you okay?"
"No... I can't do this it's all too much." He was in tears "Can you do me a favor? May I request that you pick up some bread from the market?"
"Of course.." I made my way to the market in the village but every few steps glancing behind me to make sure he was okay... He is the only thing I had left.
