A visitor

I sat awake in the house, everyone was asleep. I looked around the room, Rythian and Zoey snuggled up together on the couch, Martyn curled up on a woven reed mat, and Toby lay on the wood floor a few paces away. My gaze lingered on Toby and as if I had gone over and shaken him awake, he slowly sat up and turned to see me sitting awake. He crawled over and sat down next to me putting his arm around me. "Why are you still up?" He whispered. "When I try to sleep I see Death in my dreams." I partially lied, I was seeing Death, but something else was bothering me, I couldn't put my finger on what though. "Oh, we'll why don't you lay here next to me, I'll protect you." Toby said lovingly. I leaned my head on his shoulder, "ok" I smiled slightly. "When you were...um...dead..." He said awkwardly, "I never left your side, I knew I could save you." I just stayed silent and listened. "Once I got you here Rythian took you away from my and wouldn't let anyone near you, he tended to you for 2 days before he allowed anyone to see you." I smiled but continued to stay silent, he had more to say, "he only let us see you once the blood had stopped, and he never let us see any bloody rags. It was a bit weird, but he would try to punch anyone who came close, well except Zoey who he politely told to go away." At this I had to laugh a little, "Rythian is protective and loving, he is like a father." I said. "He told me something's about you, he said you were Ridgedog's daughter, you were trying to meet everyone in Yogsville, and that you were special...he didn't elaborate on that last part though." Toby said. "You see...well...I um...well I kinda fell in love with you the moment I saw you..." He stammered. "And when Rythian said you were Ridgedog's daughter, well I was shocked, but then I realized that I loved you even more." I didn't know what to say other than "I fell in love with you too, the moment I saw you appear in front of Death." Toby blushed a little bit in the darkness. "One question, how long was I dead?" I asked, "about 2 weeks maybe a little more" he said "it only felt like 10 minutes!" I said worriedly, I had gone about 2 weeks without my medicine! This was bad. "Toby? Did Rythian happen to have a white box about the size of a water bottle?" I asked desperately, "no..." He said confused. "No of course he wouldn't, it's mine and we were planing in coming for a visit then returning home at night...." I muttered. "Kira what's wrong?" He asked. "My medicine, Toby we have to go back to blackrock to get my medicine!" I said. "Your not going back! You'll hurt yourself! You've only just healed!" Toby said. I just shook my head, this was going to end badly... "Did anyone take off my gloves while I was dead?" I asked. "No, well we tried but Rythian punched us, I think he took your gloves off while he was taking care if you though." He said. "That's ok..." I said thinking. "Lets get some sleep, we will talk about it tomorrow morning" Toby said. He laid down and I put my head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. Soon his breathing slowed, he was asleep. I laid awake listening to his heartbeat, thinking terrible thoughts of death and transformation.

I looked out the window as the sun started to come up. I watched the sunrise and watched as everyone slowly woke up. Toby woke up and noticed I was laying awake with my head still in his chest. "You didnt sleep did you?" He said accusingly, "no...I couldn't sleep" I said. He sat up and pulled me into his lap. Rythian got up and carefully took Zoey off him and laid her back down on the couch. He came and sat on the floor next to us. "Kira how are you feeling?" He asked. "I'm ok..." I lied, "you know I can tell when your lying, what's wrong?" He said. "Rythian my medicine! It's back at the castle!" I said worriedly. He went pale, "oh no..." He said. "What's so big about this medicine?" Toby asked, "nothing, it's a matter of life or death though! If Kira doesn't drink her medicine bad things happen" Rythian said. Toby looked at me, "why didn't you say so last night!" His face going pale like Rythian's, but for different reasons. We sat and talked, trying to ignore the problem with the medicine, we would go back for it later today, but we couldn't this early in the morning. Martyn was suddenly standing right behind Toby, "morning guys" he said. Toby's head jerked up, he looked straight up into the face of his friend. "Morning Martyn." He said.

Zoey was the only one still asleep when the doorbell rang. "I'll get it" Martyn said, he opened the door and Duncan stood there. "Hello Duncan, what brings you to this part of the woods?" He asked. "I heard Kira was hurt and that she was here, I came to visit her" Duncan said. Rythian seemed to go a little pale when he saw Duncan, but quickly regained himself, and looked slightly angry. Duncan walked in and saw us all sitting on the floor, me in Toby's lap. I jumped up off Toby and flung myself into Duncan, hugging him like a child reunited with her family. "There there, I told you I would visit you" he said stroking my hair. "I'm so glad to see you" I said. "Duncan I was dead!" I said breaking away from the hug, he went pale, "what?" "I was killed by beasts, Toby here," I said pointing lovingly to Toby, "he saved me and brought me back from the dead, he fought with Death himself! And won!" I said happily. Everyone I cared about was here. That's when Zoey woke up, "Duncan? What are you doing here?" She asked. "I came to visit Kira" he said, she came and joined us on the floor, sitting next to Rythian. "And why exactly do you think coming here would help her?" Rythian said glaring at Duncan. "Well unlike you I have a heart! I care for Kira like I would my own daughter!" He says menacingly. Oh god...this is gonna get bad... "Did she ever come to you for help when she had problems?" Rythian sneered. "Yeah, she did!" Duncan replied. "I care for her better then you ever could care for her" Rythian said with a glare, Duncan seemed lost for words, he knew Rythian cared about no one other then Zoey, so then why was he sticking up for me. I almost laughed at the look of utter confusion on his face. He would never guess that Rythian and I had a bond that couldn't be broken, he would never guess that Rythian and I were the same.

Everyone sat slightly tensed, I had sat back down and Toby had put his arm protectively around my shoulders. Rythian looked as if he were trying not to grab Duncan and strangle him. I finaly broke the silence, "Guys I need to go back to Blackrock to grab my medicine" everyone looked at me, "you can't go out, Martyn didn't kill the beasts, they are still there waiting, your stuck until we get them dead" Toby said. "Please, I have to, it's worth the risk to go back and get it" I say, staring directly at Rythian, hoping he would intervene and tell them. "She does need it, the results are close to death if she doesn't get it" Rythian said, "wait, Kira doesn't have her medicine with her?" Duncan asked, "no" Rythian and I say at the same time. Duncan looks worried, I know he doesn't know what happens to me if I don't drink it, he only knows that I drank it even when it hurt like hell, which means it was important. "Ok, you can go back and get it" Martyn says, "she can't go alone!" Toby yelled. "I'm coming with her! She's not strong enough yet to go out alone" Toby says. I smile in relief and fling my arms around him, tackling him to the ground. "Thank you! I love you!" I said.

Alright guys! (And girls if it offends you to be called a guy...) this chapter is long overdue in my opinion! I leave tomorrow for sleep away camp so I won't post the next chapter for at least 2 weeks probably a little more.
