"So, here's how things go when yer one of us."
Oh god, now I'm regretting this. He already sounds negative.
"I'm sure you know the story of the four kings?"
"Yeah." Ugh, here we go again.
"Well it's false."
"I know, the dragonwhisperers didn't die out, blah blah, skip please."
"Well, ok then... Who told you?"
"A dragon"
"Oh."Ha! The look on his face was priceless.
"Well anyways, you know how them first ten got blood from dragons put inta them? Whatever kinda blood your ancestor got, that's the kind you have. It determines what sorts of dragons'll like ya and what ones won't. For example, I got mine from a snakespine, so I'm real good with them. But then take a darkwing and it'd kill me."
I took this in slowly and began figuring.
"If I got blood from a lesser fang, what dragon species would hate me?"
"Well, that depends. Two lesser fangs gave blood. One called Twist and one called Thunder. If you've got Thunder's blood, then crystal dragons. If you've got Twist's blood, seahorns and poisoworms."
"Ugh, brilliant. Just... Brilliant."
"Brilliant good, or brilliant bad?"
"Brilliant bad. I've got Twist's."Well, at least I know why any seahorns or poisoworms decide to attack me now. Because of my blood. Excellent.
"Well, Twist was a real nice guy. If ya try hard enough, you can get friendly with dragons that hate'cha."
"Oh, I'm sure I could, if it wasn't for the fact that those are two of the most dangerous dragons out there!" I burst out, frustrated. He didn't answer that one, so I continued my mini rant.
"See this here?" I gestured madly to my shoulder, healed but still with bandages. "This was done by a poisoworm, before I even knew I was a dragonwhisperer! I'm only seventeen, I haven't even graduated school, and I could have died!"
Again, no answer, but I stopped there and sighed.
"Sorry, I'm just..."
"Don't worry, I getcha. It's hard learnin' this stuff from someone ya don't know."
"Yeah."Another pause. Awkward this time.
"Hey, kiddo, why don'tcha come wit' me a sec?"
He stood up and walked to a door at the back of the office that I hadn't seen. I followed. He opened the door out onto a large balcony, with a view of the forest. I didn't even know you could see the forest from anywhere in the city.
"Hey! Sting! Get up here, will'ya?" He yelled.I wasn't seeing anything until a tiny head poked over the edge of the balcony. A dragon's head. A poisoworm's head, to be precise.
Yeah, Jamie, what is it? And who's she?
"This here's Aoife, am I right?"
I nodded, eyes locked on the poisoworm Sting.
"She needs to see a few things..." He sounded awfully evil.
She's one of Twist's... Why should I do anything for her?
"She just needs to learn about what she should be able'ta do?"
Ah, ok...So I spent the next hour learning more. About extra abilities, how to really get in a dragon's good books, and just everything else in general. Sting almost attacked me a few times, but other than that, it went pretty smoothly. I won't spoil everything yet, but I discovered that I'm very good at something called innepithy, which is one of the best skills a dragonwhisperer has. It allows us to share sights with a dragon, and see what they see. A very interesting concept, and very useful. There's a few other tricks, but I'll keep them secret for now...

Yes! Wow, this took so long... I'm super excited for Aoife's new abilities, hope you people are too! Also, happy Valentine's day!
