Steve, Peggy, Natasha, and Charlotte all piled into a (stolen) car while Noor and Robert, being old enough to drive, went with the New Avengers in another stolen vehicle. They thought they had found a lead to Percy, and promised to call as soon as possible before leaving the four alone.
Peggy studied the young girl next to her. She wasn't any older than sixteen, with streaked blonde hair, she could tell that much. Charlotte had dark eyes contrasting against pale skin, and while she seemed confident in them recruiting her, she now looked unsure of herself. Maybe even afraid, although she tried to hide it.
Peggy asked bluntly,
"Charlotte, what powers do you have? How are useful to us?"
She took a moment to think, then responded,
"I have completed control over all forms of electricity, technology, weaponry and machinery, but I found that technology powers are more useful than the others sometimes, hence my name. Techna, get it? I can also shoot lightning, and I heal fast. Like, in seconds."
Natasha asked her why she was on the run. She stiffened, turning away from them. It was obviously a sensitive topic.
"My mom's dead, and I have no other family other than her. Might as well do something good with my mad skills."
They were all quiet for a moment. It wasn't exactly a fun conversation starter. Natasha, with her feet on the dashboard, suddenly remembered something she wanted to ask Steve.
"Where did Captain America learn how to steal a car?"
"Nazi Germany." He replied cooly, and continued with,
"And we're borrowing. Take your feet off the dash."
She did, grinning the whole time.
"All right, I have a question for you," Natasha began. "Which you do not have to answer. I feel like, if you don't answer it though, you're kind of answering it, you know."
"What?" He he asked.
"Was that your first kiss since 1945?"
Charlotte could barely contain her snickering at that.
"- That bad, huh?" He spoke.
" I didn't say that." Natasha defended.
"Well, it kind of sounds like that's what you're saying."
"No, I didn't. I just wondered how much practice you've had."
" You don't need practice."
"Everybody needs practice."
It was not my first kiss since 1945. I'm 95, I'm not dead. No harm though, right Peg?"
"No. It was nobody special, though?" She quipped.
"Believe it or not, it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience, Natasha." He explained.
"Well, that's all right. You could have just made something up." Nat suggested.
"What, like you?" He wondered.
"I don't know. The truth is a matter of circumstance. It's not all things to all people, all the time. Neither am I." She told him.
"That's a tough way to live." He said.
"It's a good way not to die, though."
"You know, it's kind of hard to trust someone, when you don't know who that someone really is. No offense Charlotte."
