Charlotte Evans
I had spent hours up in my room thinking of what I should do to confront her, I couldn't just sit back and let this happen. After hearing, what I heard tonight my whole perspective changed on both Anthony and most especially my mother. I had so much love for her and thought she could do no wrong, but boy was I wrong.
I let out a groan as I paced the floor in front of me, still dressed in the clothes I had worn to the club. My mind was fluttered with thoughts and ideas, everything just didn't seem to make sense to me anymore.
I needed someone to talk to, I grabbed my phone and dialed Alex's number but it went straight to voicemail. The way she was drinking tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if she was knocked out somewhere. Not to mention that it was her birthday and it probably wasn't a good day to make it about me. I threw my phone onto my bed and tried to shake off the amount of anger I was feeling; but it was way too much. Now that I knew Anthony was a snake, I didn't have anyone else to turn to. My mind ran over the thought of calling Alonzo to handle this for me, but by the way our last encounter went; I doubt it would be a good idea.
However, Eazy was probably someone that could help me with a situation like this. After all,... we did have the same father and I doubt he or his mother would want anything to happen to him.
I threw my phone onto my bed and I changed out of my dress, threw on a pair of grey sweats and an over sized white T-shirt. It was better to discuss something like this in person, rather than on the phone. I pulled my hair into a high bun then grabbed my car keys. I was still a bit drunk, but I doubt my driving would be affected by it. I grabbed my phone and opened my bedroom door slowly, then tiptoed down the steps as quiet as I could. When I got to the front door; I punched in the code then made my way out to my car.
I started it up and my vision grew a bit hazy, it had to have been the nerves. I rolled my car out of the spot and made my way down the street. I kept it slow until my vision began to get a little bit clearer than it was before. I drove on the back streets to stay on the safe side until I eventually got to the tall apartment buildings safely. I turned off my engine and jumped out of the car. Eazy and a couple of young guys were out there standing against their cars; smoking as usual. I rolled my eyes and walked over to him. "Hey, I need to talk to you." I said, flashing one of my fake smiles. Eazy placed one finger up and signalled that he was on the phone, he stood silent and listened to everything the person said on the other end. I watched as his eyes widened then he hung up and placed his phone into his pocket. "Yo, let's roll out! Alonzo is having trouble with 12." The rest of them scattered as they jumped into the cars that were parked along the side of the street.
"What's going on?" I asked, grabbing his arm before he could get into his car. Hearing that Alonzo was in trouble made my heart skip a beat.
"I don't have time to explain right now, if you want to find out follow behind us."
I nodded and ran back over to my car. I jumped into driver's side and started it up quickly; trailing behind the rest of the cars in front of me. They sped off and I tried my best to follow them, going as fast as I possibly could. I wasn't used to this speed and I was not in the best shape to drive like this. I looked up at the yellow light before me and watched as they all rushed through making it, I couldn't be left behind. I stepped on the gas and just as I was about to make it through; I felt the impact, my body being tossed through the passenger's side window.
Next thing I knew... I was laid out on the concrete; staring up at the stars and street lights. I tried to move... but I couldn't. I tried to speak but I couldn't. I felt my eyes grow heavy and just before they shut I saw Eazy standing over me... "Stay with us Ch−"
Alonzo Flemington
"Eazy... I'm in some trouble man..." I spoke into the phone and watched as two police officers stepped out of their car. They weren't like the police I was used to in my hood, by the emotion written across their faces; I knew this wasn't going to go well. "I said put your hands up where I can see them!" one of them barked at me, as he knocked my phone out of my hand. I complied, and raised my hand up.
"You have the right to remain silent... Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney, one will be provided for you." He slammed my head against the cruiser as he spread my legs, starting to pat me down. "Do you understand the rights I have just read to you? With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me?"
"Hell nah." I scoffed, holding still, regardless of how uncomfortable I felt.
"Smart decision." They emptied my pockets and pulled out the roll of money placing it on top of the car. "Rich guy." I heard one of them tease. They stripped off my shoes and searched my back pocket for what they weren't going to find. I had been in the game long enough, and I was smarter than that. "Why are you even here?" the slimmer of the two asked me, as he began to feel my chest for anything. I refused to answer. "You know you don't belong here right. This isn't the place for you."
"Yo chill!" I yelled as the police man threw me to the ground and I felt my head bang against the concrete. I winced in pain, turning my head to look at Alex who was pleading for them to let me go. Due to the impact of the hit to the ground, I couldn't hear a thing from my right ear. "He didn't do anything officer, I swear!" I heard muffled, "please just let him go. It was all just a misunderstanding."
"Ma'am you need to stay back!" one of them yelled, but she continued to inch closer; refusing to listen.
"Please you need to let him go!" she shouted, "my dad is Judge Phillips! If you guys were smart you would let him go right now!" she threatened, attempting to get closer to me. My hearing went in and out and I felt one of their knees pressed into my lower back. He wasn't the lightest, so I don't know why they thought this was okay. I watched as one of the pigs got up seeing how close she had gotten and threw her onto the sidewalk. "Ma'am I said you need to stay back!" he shouted. Seeing her in that state; regardless of everything that happened tonight made my blood boil. I attempted to get and help her but I felt the other holding my head against the cold ground below me. "Leave her alone." I said into the ground, "just take me... I am who you came for."
"We will do whatever we want to do with her, son." He dropped his head close to my left ear. "And I mean anything... because you can't stop us."
"I'm not your son!" I spat out.
"You'd be lucky if you were, I bet a little street nigga like you doesn't even know who his father is." He said into my ear with a chuckle.
After hearing that word come from someone that wasn't my color; I grew angrier than I was before. I felt the strength grow in me and I flipped over, getting out of his hold. I punched him right in his mouth, sending him back into his car. "You wanna say that again?" I threatened as I wrapped my hands around his neck; until he turned blue in the face. "B-b-b-bruce..." he squealed out, calling for his partner to help.
I heard Alex yelling, trying to get my attention from the sidewalk, I turned and saw the cop that had her was now running full force at me. I wasn't one to back down from a fight, especially when adrenaline was pumping. I let go of the cop I was choking and he held onto his throat as he began to pant for air. I threw a punch in the direction of his partner, it connected into his mouth but he continued to try to tackle me; but I wasn't budging. I felt him starting to grow weak as he wrestled me. My eyes scanned the gun in his holster and the greatest idea flashed across my mind. Don't do it Alonzo! I heard my conscience say.
But it was way too late, I grabbed it and backed up; holding it pointed at him. As my finger grazed the trigger, I felt a hit come from behind me... it was like something took the last breath out of my body. Images of Nya and my mother flashed in my mind; thoughts of them laughing and dancing. Nya's first steps, first tooth, first word. My mother when she was heathy and happy; and lastly, I saw Alex... I saw her smile from the first day I had met her.
I watched as the gun dropped from my hand, then looked down at the pool of blood that began to form in front of me..... Did this nigga really just shoot me?
