Alonzo Flemington
I followed the noise and flashing lights of cameras, guiding me to the venue that I had spent most of the night searching for. Being gone for so long; made me forget the places I used to know by heart. Due to that, I was now late, so I had to park the car a couple blocks away in a Walmart parking lot. Whoever's party this was, really did know a lot of people and it really had to be something for this much people to really stand out in this cold.
I blew into my hands, and looked over the heads of the people waiting in front of me. God knows, if I didn't need this job. I would have just left and went home. Not only did I hate parties, but I also hated lines with a passion.
I lit up a cigarette and took a long drag, trying my best to pass the time but it seemed as if the line was not moving, whatsoever. I groaned and looked ahead of me to see the guards holding us up. "Fifteen-minute wait, the place is over capacity!" he announced causing everyone to begin cussing. "Hey, hey, hey! If you have a problem you can take your asses home!"
I shook my head at his behavior, just as I was about to walk out and back to the car I saw a lady walking down the line with a clip board. "Excuse me ma'am." I said, waving her down, she rolled her eyes and ignored me. Looking back down on the clipboard she had in front of her, I watched her exchange a few words with someone in the line before she looked back into my direction. "How may I help you?" she yelled, causing everyone to look back at me. The lady walked over to where I was, and of course the nosey crowd continued to stare.
"Sorry to bother you, I know it's cold and you probably want to go inside but; I'm supposed to be a security guard here tonight? Should I be in this line?" I blew my smoke in the opposite direction so it wouldn't affect her.
"Oh." She glanced down at her list then flipped through it. "What's your name?"
"Alonzo Flemington."
"Right here!" she pointed at my name, then checked it off. "First of all; congratulations on getting the job. I'm Skye, you will be working alongside myself and many others at the new shop. Just a quick run down; I know it would have been better to do this inside an office or something; but you are an hour late." She shot me a look, then reached out her hand and I shook it. "Your official day is tomorrow, however; we need you to work tonight due to the volume of guests. Our boss has agreed to pay you cash tonight for the inconvenience but it is up to you to deny or accept. Keep it mind that if you deny working tonight you will not get a chance at a real job with us; consider tonight a test run."
"I don't mind," I said with a shrug. "I could use the cash anyways."
"That's good to hear. Now, just a moment. I have to get my partner, just to ask you a few questions." I watched as her body turned and she began to wave someone over. As she walked up I bit, I stayed put; placing my hands into my pockets to try and stay as warm as possible.
I could hear Skye and a male whisper from where I stood but I didn't want to be too nosey. I put out my cigarette and a few minutes later she walked back over to me, with a man standing behind her. "Ezekiel this is A−"
"Alonzo?" Eazy said, looking over me with question. You have got to be kidding me. I internally groaned but flashed him a smile instead. Fake it till you make it, you need the money Alonzo. "What's up man?" he asked, holding out his hand. I hesitated for a moment, before I slapped his hand; dapping him up.
"I'm good, what's up with you?"
"Same old, you know me. When did you get out?" his brows furrowed and I heard his voice shake. Knowing we didn't leave on the best terms was probably why he felt so nervous. I didn't blame him, with what he did to me; he should've felt fear. In my eyes; snakes like him shouldn't have even been breathing. However, I had to act civilized.
