I had finally made a decision, If Freddie wouldn't come back, then it was my responsibility to go to him and that's what I would do, i would catch him just before he made a huge mistake and I would bring him back home.

But I had to be quick if my plan would work, so I stuffed a selection of clothes into a bag and grabbed my passport from my clattered draw and headed off, I couldn't let Freddie leave again and it was up to me to stop him.

I tapped the window rhythmically to distract myself from what I was about to do. The plane smelt of cheap food and all that could be heard were snotty children complaining and crying. Well young children, swap lives with me and then you can complain, I thought matter of factly.

Once we had landed, I snatched my phone from my pocket and tried to find my whereabouts on google maps but it was no use. I had to find Freddie, and to do that in a whole different country, I had to find joes gang hideout. I knew it was useless trying to ring Freddie again so I tried another tactic. I rang the unknown number and waited.

"Hello?" His voice made my skin crawl but I needed to stay calm.
"Hello joe, it's effy and we need to talk"
I had to stall to get the information I needed.

"Ooh effy, too little, too late, soon Freddie will arrive and I'll have him right where I want him"

"He hasn't arrived yet, what makes you so sure that he will come?"

"He just rang from a hotel a couple of blocks away from me and told me of his plans to return to my company so I'm pretty sure"
I could almost hear the smirk in his voice, but that didn't matter, I had got what I needed.

"Well Joseph, I wouldn't be so confident" I replied as I cut off the call.

I now knew that Freddie would join the gang very soon and that meant to find him, I must find the gang and now thanks to my brain, I could track the phone call.

Central Park. How cliché? I hailed a taxi and told the driver the directions. I handed the driver a crinkled £10 note and told him to keep the change.

I stepped into the park nervously, it was huge and that made it a good hideout. I walked through the grass, treading carefully and scanning the area.
I hadn't thought about what I would do if I came face to face with joe, but all i needed to know was that my mission was clear, find Freddie.

I was about half way across the mass of grass when I felt two hands grasp my shoulders. I was terribly out of breath and had no energy to fight back.  I was about to let out a scream when one of the hands moved to my mouth and I was forcefully dragged behind a bush.

Once I had snapped back into reality, I spun around and stopped in my tracks as I realised who it was.

"Freddie?!!" I gasped.
"Eff what the hell are you doing here?"
He asked as his face tightened in confusion.
"Oh my goodness, your okay" I sighed whilst throwing my arms around his neck. I nuzzled my head into his shoulder and closed my eyes.

His sweater still smelt of the sickly sweet musk of his room. I noticed a group of bristles had gathered on his chin and were scraping against my face but it didn't bother me.

Suddenly, I was brought back into reality at his voice and I realised that he wasn't hugging me back.

"Effy you have to leave, what an earth is going on?"

"Freddie..... I....I have to tell you.... Joe..... Joe is John fosters son...and he... he wants revenge for what cook did.... To his dad"

I felt the tears prick my eyes I fell against his chest. He rocked me back and forth like a child as I wept on his shoulder.

"Effy what are you talking about? You can't be serious"

"No Freddie, I would never lie to you" I replied staring straight into his eyes.

"But..but how? That doesn't even make sense"

"I know but we have to get out of here Freddie, now"

"You came all the way here to protect me?"

"Yes"

"But that's supposed to be my job" he replied holding me closer.

"FREDSTER" I heard a voice shout, I knew it instantly, we had to get out of here now.

"Freddie?" I whispered. He grabbed my arm and we raced out of the park with the voice still calling after us. My legs felt like jelly but we carried on.

Once we reached the road i pause dto catch my breath but Freddie spotted a taxi and pulled me in hastily.

"Freddie..."
"I know effy, me too"
I rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes slowly.

I woke up to Freddie shaking my shoulder. We had stopped outside a hostel. Freddie handed the driver some cash and we stepped out of the car.
"It's not the ritz but it'll do for tonight" he smiled.

"We're safe so it's perfect" I replied. He took my hand and we entered the building. It stank of weed and cheap food but it meant we were safe.
