"David, why were you so rude to her?"
"I wasn't rude to her, Emma."
"Really? How would you feel if I ignored you and just stared at you stonily?"
They didn't realize how thin the walls were and that I could here every word that was said. I pretended that I couldn't when I left my room and brushed my teeth, smiling a soft goodnight before retreating into my room. My bed was covered in a thick purple comforter which I wrapped around my body and tried to get adjusted to the lumps in the mattress. Emma and David had either stopped talking or they had taken to whispering as to not disturb me, but I was certain that it was the former. I tossed and turned, trying to fall asleep but I just couldn't. My mind was spinning too fast and even the comforting strains of my piano music coming through my earbuds wasn't enough to make me fully calm down. Finally I gave up and snuck out of bed towards my bag and grabbed a threadbare stuffed rabbit. The rabbit smelled of lavender and roses, a scent that I attributed to home. With my Bunny in my arms, I was able to get comfortable, but not comfortable enough to fall asleep. Around 1 am, I gave up and just let the tears fall onto the lumpy mattress, not giving a darn anymore. The only things that saw me cry were the moon and Bunny, and would hopefully be the last things to see me cry. I was strong,not a wimpy little girl. Even as a child I was strong. I once broke my wrist skateboarding, the bone popping out of the skin and the first thing I did was poke it to see if it hurt. It hurt like the fires of hell but I didn't cry. It saddened me to see that my little four year old self wouldn't cry, but here I was, crying my eyes out. I breathed a sigh of hopelessness and buried my face in Bunny's neck. The next thing I knew, it was morning and Emma was shaking my shoulder to wake up.
"Morning sleepy head!"
