chapter 1

luke's pov

black skinny jeans, white t shirt, black converse. an everyday outfit for luke. when mia was around, she always encouraged him to try something new, even when it came to his outfit. however, her death has completely changed him.

luke decided to take a trip to the coffee shop, hoping the nice worker from before would be there. he wanted to see her smile, he wanted to talk to her again.

he unbuckled his seat belt and opened the door to the car, taking a quick breath. he decided he would try to be nicer to the girl, maybe even get her name.

he stuffed his hands in the pockets of his jeans, keeping his head held low as he walked across the blacktop. he pulled out a crumpled ten dollar bill, holding it in his hands. when luke reached the door, he cautiously pulled it opened, inhaling the deep smell of coffee.

luke always enjoyed the smell, but he was never a coffee person. sometimes he drank it anyways, but he usually preferred a delicious cup of hot chocolate.

he scanned his surroundings, noticing the same girl that had waited on him only a few days before. luke smiled to himself.

"oh hey! i remember you," she smiles, "same as yesterday or would you like something else?"

luke tapped on his chin for a few seconds, pondering over what he wanted. "same as yesterday, thank you."

"luke, right?" she clarifies, holding a sharpie over his cup and waiting for clarification. he nodded at her, and she wrote his name in bubbly writing, that looked exactly like mia's. luke frowned to himself.

"hey, you okay?" she smiles weakly, and luke studied he for a moment. thin black hair pulled into a ponytail, and piercing, bright green eyes.

he shrugged, "i guess."

"well hi luke, i'm tess," she says. "are you going to start coming here more?" she asks, her elbows leaning against the counter as the barista make my hot chocolate.

"maybe if your hot chocolate is better than starbucks," luke says blandly.

"i think we have a pretty damn good hot chocolate, but if you come back tomorrow i have some recommendations. why don't you come at four, luke?" she asks. luke enjoyed her positive energy, but almost felt like she was talking his ear off.

"um, sure," he agrees, "maybe."

the barista handed macy his hot chocolate, and she handed it to him with a smile. he paid her, but then decided to ask, "how did you remember my name or what i ordered? I've been here once."

"well, we're not exactly a very popular place, not too many people come. i can match a face with a name, i guess. but bye luke, i'll see you tomorrow."

she smiled at him, and it didn't compete to the beauty of mia's beautiful smile.

and now, tess wanted to see him again. tomorrow at four.

tomorrow at four. tomorrow at four. tomorrow at four. that was all that went though luke hemmings's head.
