"Shite, Jack's not answering! Tosh! What do ya got?!" Gwen stuffed her mobile into her jeans pocket and dashed out her flat down to the SUV. Owen followed in and the doors weren't even closed before they started off past the speed limit. Answering Gwen's question, Tosh leaned with the momentum as they swerved and kept at her hand held, "I don't know, they didn't disturb any of the other alarms at the higher levels. It's not human, but the CCTV is showing something completely different."

Owen, sensing her uneasiness looks to the techie and scowels, "What's that supposed to mean? Shape shifting E.T? Heh!" Tosh holds the footage for him to see and he reflects her drained face and disbelief in the eyes perfectly. She would've thought it was amusing except the situation was very not so.

"Tell me that's not- he can't POSSIBLY-! BOLLOCKS!"

"It's Ianto."

Gwen for all she can, can't hear the whispered words of her colleagues and only Owen's shouts of protest. "What?! What is it?!" The beeps and cars on the highway don't make it any easier to hear Toshiko's barely-there statement.

Jack's sniffling and outright wails are brought to a stuttering stop as tires squeak and abruptly stop nearby. As he lifts up his head at the frantic running of feet towards him, he can't bring it in him to wipe his red and blotchy face. Handsome all the same.

"JACK. IANTO. Its, he's, he's in the hub!" Owen doesn't even bother to pause and aims toward the information center, passing a confused and irritable Captain. Then as his words come to focus he follows just as quickly, faster even, to the Tourist Center. Joining the rest of his team but not mirroring their actions of precaution. If what they were saying was true (whatever it was, he had a good guess maybe from their actions), he would not pull a gun on Ianto. He had an odd feeling as they carefully (more like burst) made their way through the door, (they couldn't contain themselves, Ianto was up and walking for God's sake) he clenched his hand around the watch with more strength.

Finally as they passed the cog door, everything was silent. The hub seemed untouched. No tea-boy in sight.

"What exactly was it you said about Ianto, hub?" Jack's voice had that cold, 'I'm-in-charge' tone, like he was not ready to hope for even a moment. It killed him more than it should have earlier. And just as he was about to get his answer, the naked and very much alive proof stumbled onto the base's main floor.

*CRASH*

All Glocks aimed at the trespassing noise created near the stairs that led to the lower levels,  where a panicked Ianto in nothing to cover himself in but his white death sheet, stood. Legs shaking, heart racing, mouth a shade of light hypothermia blue.

Everything.

At a stand still.

Nobody moved, their tense muscles burning but not one single finger twitched. Not one breath taken, nor one eye blinked.

Jack didn't acknowledge his skin precipitation or the fact that his clenched hands hurt or that his breath became raged, if not stolen. Keeping their eyes on both Ianto and Jack while arms stayed poised was hard for Toshiko and the doctor and PC Cooper.

Jaw clenched and tears escaping, Captain Jack Harkness crept up to a fidgeting illusion of his love lost. Illusion of course. Dream maybe. Nightmare more like, like all the rest that twisted and turned from dream to horror. Not happening. This can't be happening, but the small persistent call of 'could it be' pulsed across the immortal's mind. His stomach churned and swirled as he pulled the courage he did not have to ask the one question they all had.

"Ianto?"
