Seventeen

The days sort of blurred together as my time in the hospital kept extending. I'd been in here for over a course of three weeks now. I had a little more strength back in me, but my condition hadn't worsened or gotten better. For a heart patient that was generally considered a bad thing.

Mentally, I was strained. I wouldn't sleep for long before I'd be woken up in a sweat, Caleb's maliciously grinning face swimming around my mind. I felt that it was illogical for me to be so hung up on the abuse he'd inflicted, it was minimal. I felt that it was strange, to be afraid of something that had hardly even happened. Regardless, the event was still fresh in my mind.

Genny and Juliette had basically been hanging out here when they could, and at this point I'm sure my mother could guess that there was something going on between Juliette and I. She didn't know she was my teacher of course, just that we were involved.

She was largely appreciated. Genny had been floored when I'd told her we were officially together, but she still wanted the juiciness. I rolled my eyes and told her there wasn't much "juiciness" when I was confined to this bed. She of course went onto further her point about what a bed was for.

"I mean I'm just telling you, if we dressed you in some sexy red underwear it would actually kind of look good against these ugly ass sheets."

I paused in my chomping on a salad, the only thing that was actually edible in the hospital cafeteria, to level her with an incredulous look.

"I'm dying, and you're trying to get me laid?" She snorted and rolled her eyes at me.

"For one, you're not dying and two, if you were, would you really wanna go down carrying your v-card around?"

My cheeks were burning from the images this conversation was implanting in my mind. I flicked a crouton at her. "Stop." She pouted.

"Oh come on, she's hot! Get on that before someone else does!" I was so busy being furious at her that I didn't hear a anyone come in.

"Get on what?"

My face drained of all color when the voice split through the air. Genny was even blushing. I snarled at her silently before slowly turning towards the voice.

Juliette stood there, a smirk curved on her lips and her eyes twinkling mischievously.

"N-nothing." I stammered, attempting to further my point by shoving a piece of lettuce in my mouth.

It would've made sense if I hadn't been fumbling so much and missed my mouth.

Mortification spread through me as ranch dressing painted a path from my mouth to my cheekbone. After a split second of silence Genny burst into body shaking laughter. "I-I'm go-going to go get s-some paper towels." She gasped as she hurried out of the room.

My cheeks burned and one glance at Juliette told me she was trying to hold in her laughter for my sake. I glared at her "Well, go ahead. Get it off your chest." I grumbled.

She just shook her head and grinned at me as she sidled over, sitting beside me on the bed and propping her feet up in the chair.
