chapter 10

The night was pretty peaceful, other than the two babies that cried every few minutes. The five of them made small talk and joked around together. It almost made Lauren forget about the incident at work just a few hours before.

Almost.

Every few minutes or so, Lauren would feel a buzz on her thigh, signaling he has gotten a new text message.

I know where you're at. Get the fuck out of there if you don't want to live a life in fear.

From: Unknown

You getting along with Gemma?

From: Unknown

Anne always liked me better.

From: Unknown

I SEE YOU LAUREN KRISTINE

From: Unknown

YOU DIDN'T KNOW I KNEW YOUR MIDDLE NAME, HUH?

Lauren had to turn her phone off. She was in the middle of dinner, the last thing she should be thinking about is Stevie

She left him, he loves you now. Lauren had to reassure herself. She was still very paranoid.

Gemma told a joke at the table and everyone around was laughing. Lauren cracked a smile to make it look like she was listening.

"You've been pretty quiet all dinner, Lauren. Is everything alright?"

Lauren's head snapped up at Anne's voice and the mentioning of her name.

She smiled sweetly, "Just tired. Long day at work," She lied. The last thing she needed was all of Harry's family worrying about her.

Lauren looked over to see Harry looking at her with raised eyebrows. She knew he was onto something. She shook her head and waved her hand, showing him it was no big deal and he didn't need to wonder what was going on.

Everyone was gathered around the couch watching a movie after dinner was over. Gemma and Jake on the love seat, Anne, Lauren, and Harry on the bigger couch. Both babies were asleep in a small Pac N' Play Anne bought for when either Lincoln or Riley stays overnight.  

Harry kept looking over at Lauren every once in a while to make sure she wasn't uneasy or uncomfortable. Lauren noticed some of the times he looked over, but not most of them. Harry knew something was up and he hated that Lauren was keeping it from him. He thought they told each other everything. 

He shook his head slightly. All of this over-thinking was giving him a migraine. Tonight, he decided to just have fun and spend time with his family, then confront Lauren in the morning.

The next time Harry looked over, Lauren was fast asleep, her head leaning on his shoulder. Harry originally thought that she wasn't wearing any makeup, but now that he saw her face a lot closer than before, he could tell she wasn't completely makeup-less. Her eyelashes were a dark brown, rather than their natural caramel, and the red pimple that was adorning her nose that morning, was now skin coloured.

Jake and Gemma were still wide awake and watching the movie.Anne had decided to get up and clean the table off and wash the dishes. Of course Harry offered to help, but she scolded him for even thinking to help her. Anne was always too nice to everyone. That's why Harry didn't start uni until he was 23.

The movie ended just a little while later, and everyone was too tired to stay any longer. Anne begged both Harry and Gemma to have the kids stay with her that night. Gemma refused, since she had to bring Lincoln to an appointment to some natural doctor that Harry made fun of her about. Harry and Lauren both agreed to Riley staying, considering they would like to sleep through the entire night.
