I feel my shirt pocket vibrate and the room slightly brighten. I sigh and close my eyes. Here comes the lecture. "Honey what was that? Do you have your phone on you? You know the rules about no phones at the dinner table!" My mother scoulds me.
"No mom, why would i have my cell on me during dinner?" I try to act innocent, but fail miserably. I give my dad a pleading look asking for help. He returns it with a stern one. My mother eyes us sceptiacly. My dad isn't really a stickler for the rules like my mom, but he trys his hardest to keep her happy. If that means reprimanding me, he definitely does it. He also tries to help me as much as possible also. Why do I have to be such a lousy liar. And why does my father have to balance his emotions to make me and mother happy.
"Honey, your not looking so good. Maybe you should go to the bathroom before finishing up dinner." He patts my hand. I send a million silent thank-yous to my dad. I push back my wood chair and cringed at the sound of the tile and hard oak sliding against each other.
"Honey ,she looks fine to me. Darling are you feeling ok?" Typical concerned mom.
"Now that dad mentions it. I am feeling a bit feverish, im just gonna go to the bath room and splash some water on my face." I laugh hoping no one senses the nervousness behind it.
"Do you need my help. Oh God, i just read an article about teens around the age of fifteen and sixteen having a higher risk of flu! Flu can be deadly, Magdalena." Shes already pushing back her chair and placing her napkin on the table. I rolled my eyes in my mind. Cant she sense the urgency in this situation. Sometimes she really knows exactly how to push all my buttons the wrong way and the only buttons I need pushed right now where the ones on my phone. I seriously needed to see if Ashton had accepted, and then more importantly, I would need to tell him the story of how I managed to snag the audition. Which wont go well.
"No mom I think I can handle it. I'll be back shortly." I rush down the cold hallway and close my self in the bathroom. Locking the door to be extra sure I cantt be heard. I pull out my Cellphone and click it on to check my messages. I had one missed text that read *Ashton*
* i thought it over. i'm gonna go. Directions pleaseee?!*
* 4367 Maplewood Ct.*
I reaply shakily. I was nervous to see his reaction to the address. Seconds after I sent the message, a call came in from Ashton, just as I suspected
"Hey why does this address sound so familiar?" Oh God he recognized it. I put my hands over my eyes even though he cant see me. Its a bad habbit I guess.
"Um, thats weird Im not sure why its sounds familiar. You should just go over there and knock them dead" I hang up before he can recall where he was going. I leave my phone on the couch as i pass it to avoid any furthur confrontation between my family because i knew a boat load is about to come from Ashton.
I plop back into my seat." Felling better?" My father asks.
"Much. Thanks for asking." I smile and try to enoy the healthy vegeaterian meal my mother prepared. To be honest it tatse like shit , but i just imagine that its a burger that my father used to grill on fridays. Ive been having to imagine a lot of things a lot of things latley, and you'd think after five years i'd be used to all the changes, but somethings you never forget or get used to. Like fire works exploding everywhere on the fourth of July, or cooking barbeques on the weekend ,and catching fast food on week nights when your in a hurry. I will always miss my dog Ginger, who we had to leave behind in America ,and the carpets that covered the floor and filled me with warmth.
You see, when i was ten my mom decided she wanted change. Like drasticly, i guess living in the same town your whole life, it tends to get boring,. Also its impossible to hide your secrets .A city a few miles would have done fine, but that wasnt far enough i guess, so she decided to pack us up and relocate to the other side of the globe, in Australia.
