ENJOY!
Sangs POV
I never got a close up of Victor at the concert because we were stuck in the back. When he turned around I stopped breathing. His brown eyes held an intensity to them that made me finally understand the saying "fire in his eyes". A blush spreads across my cheeks at him witnessing the scene I made at the front of the class. There is concern etched in his features. Let me correct what I said earlier. People think they are pompous spoiled rich kids. I don't really know what to think, but Victor seems nice.
"Are you okay? I'm Victor by the way."
I almost open my mouth to say something foolish like I know. That would have been truly embarrassing. "I'm Sang. And yeah, I'm fine."
"Get detentions a lot?" Victor jokes.
"Ha ha." I respond with a sarcastic tone lacing my words. I clear my throat and respond like a mature teenager.
"No, I only had 17 last year."
He freezes, his mouth hanging open in shock. "Seriously?"
" No. I got 24, but I only went to 17. Some advisors don't care if you come or not so you just skip if they are there."
I can tell his opinion of me has already changed, probably worse than it already was, if that is possible. I felt my thumb go up to my lip, a habit Mark had always hated. He always hated making me uncomfortable.
"You don't really seem like the bad girl type but then again I could be completely wrong." Victor teased.
"I don't get them on purpose! They just happen!" I protested his banter in a meek voice, feeling emotionally drained from snapping at Mr. Morris. I could barley go a week without detention. They take every little thing you do and give you one. Technically not late for class, detention. Somebody punches you, detention for you but not the person who punched you. Running in the hall, detention.
"So how long have you been going here?" Victor asked, dropping the previous conversation.
"I've been going here since last February."
"Where did you live before?"
"Illinois for about 5 months and before that Maine."
"Why did you move so much?"
Again, an answer pops into mind that I would never say in a million years, to run away because my mom basically murder my little sister and boyfriend and people started to see through her lies.
"Umm... my mom's...work?" Victor looks at me, his eyes ablaze with curiosity. He glances over his shoulder to look at North.
"You don't sound too sure of yourself." The thing is, I'm not. Mark helped me become more comfortable but put me in any real situation where I wasn't angry or ticked off, I couldn't converse with people to save my life.
"I'm sure, we moved because of my Mom." I said, sounding sure of myself. It was the truth, only not the whole truth.
"Shut up please!" Mr. Morris shouts over the hum of the students chatter and laughter.
The class passed by uneventfully. We were told to write notes about the first chapter and then write a page essay on it. The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Grabbing my books, I wait for the room to clear out before approaching Mr. Morris.
The only stragglers were North and Victor so I figured I was safe from rumors circling.
"Mr. Morris" I state. Looking up from his Playboy magazine, he starts yelling.
"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING? YOU CAN'T JUST DO THAT. YOU DO DESERVE A DETENTION FOR TALKING BACK TO ME"
I flinch, not looking him in the eyes. Come on Sang! Girl, pull yourself together! Put on your big girl boots! An idea sparks in my mind. I look him dead in the eyes.
"Mr. Morris, you realize that because today is the first day of school, detention paper work having yet to be handed out. You will have to go all the way down to the Main Office, look up my information, fill it out, and then submit it, because I was, what, 5 seconds late for class." I hoped this would work. His face showed some serious thinking. To help my case I pleaded "And I just can't get a detention." My big girl facade is ruined by the break in my voice towards the end.
His eyes narrow at me. "Get out of my room! Next time I won't be so lenient!"
I glance back and see North smirking as I scurry out of the room, heaving a sigh of relief. An arm slings around my shoulders and I stiffen, immediately ripping it off and pushing at the body that belongs to the arm. I turn around to scream at whoever did that. I am too frazzled right now to think straight. Right behind me is Victor and North. Victor's eyes are wide and North is no longer smirking. My hand covers my mouth in realization.
"I'm so sorry Victor, I didn't know that was you."
"No problem." He walks beside me with his arms to himself.
"Nice way to get out of detention." North grumbles.
A small smile inches its way across my face, though it doesn't quite reach my eyes. "It is easy to know what buttons to push with teachers like those."
"What I don't understand is why you got a detention. 5 people came in after you." Victor provides.
I shrug, not sure how to answer. I always get unfair detentions.
"We are heading to lunch, want to join us?" Victor offers.
I pause for a minute, confused about why he would possibly want somebody like me to sit with them. I mean, not that they knew this, but just by living, I caused 2 deaths. I look at them oddly.
"No, I'm fine. I have to be somewhere anyway." My voice is soft and my eyes remain on the floor and I drift away.
"Catch you later?" I hear a beautiful baritone voice call after me. I slip into the next hallway and take a deep breath. Who knew one day of school could be so emotionally taxing?
