Chapter 3

Max's pov.

I think mom was trying to set me up with Abigale which is kind of weird considering what was going on. i sigh before walking over to my mom who was walking down to the library that was down the hall. "Mom can we talk?" i ask and she stops walking before looking at me. "what's wrong Max?" she asks as she walks over to me and takes my hand. i lead her over to a room that was free and pull her in before forcing her to sit down in a chair that was by he window. "Mother what are you thinking? you had me spend so much time with that girl for what reason? your just going to eat her soul so why bother having me make friends with her?" i ask letting my voice get louder as i talk. Mother wouldn't look up at me and she was shaking in her seat. "your right." she says before standing and walking away leaving me alone in the room more confused then before because she didn't answer a single question i asked her. after a few minutes and deep breaths i leave the room to do some work father asked me to do.

by lunch time i hadn't seen my mother again but Abigale was talking with uncle Ciel as they eat together. i look over at father who had a frown on his face as he serves the food. "Max do you know where Selene is?" Abigale ask as she looks over at me a small worried look on her face. "I haven't seen mother since earlier this morning. i though she was doing lesions with you in the library today Lady Abigale." i say not letting them know i got into a fight with mother this morning. "Maxwell please take over here. i have a few things i need to do." father said before giving a small bow to uncle Ciel then walking quickly out of the room. I was really confused and worried about what was going on but i served uncle Ciel and Abigale their food and tea. once they were done father showed up and lead Abigale to the library and i was left alone with uncle Ciel. "i'm going to my study go help the others clean or something." uncle Ciel says before he walks away leaving me alone once again. i head to the kitchen to see if Bard needed help but before i even walked in there was a boom and smoke was rolling out of the room.Bard runs out coughing and waving a hand in front of him as if to clear out the smoke faster. "Bard what did you do?" i ask as i walk over to him and he looks up at me. "I might have used my flamethrower to cook faster." Bard says before giving me a small smile.

Mother had told me when i was younger about the clumsy chef and his unusual methods of cooking. i can see now that she was telling me about Bard and the others for if i was to ever run into them. Bard tells me that he can get everything cleaned up before my father showed up to make tea or start dinner. i walk around to see if Mey-Rin or Finny needed help but they were doing things for my father or uncle Ciel. i find a room that was on the other side of the manor to clean. it looked like it hadn't had anyone in it in a long time and it was a really nice room. i start to clean and after about an hour and a half it was clean and if i dare say perfect. i was just about to leave when i hear voices outside the room. "Say Lady Abigale do you like it here do far?" Mey-Rin asks. "I do but i'm a little unsure about being here. i felt a little better when i was walking around with Maxwell because he is the nicest man i have ever met and i told Selene that. she was really happy to hear it and told me that it would be fine to spend my free time with him until i was comfortable around here." Abigale says and i give a small sigh. so that was what my mother had been thinking. now i felt a little bad about yelling at my mother this morning. "Selene is a really sweet woman. i hated her for a while especially when i found out that Sebastian liked her. i had a small crush on Sebastian yes i did. but i'm happy to see them happy together. i don't know where she went off to today but i'm sure she will be back soon. no need to worry Lady Abigale." Mey-Rin says. their voices got quieter as they walk and i lean against the wall before closing my eyes. "Mother where are you?" i whisper before pushing off the wall and heading to my room.

Abigale's pov.

Selene had disappeared and i was worried about her. She promised me that she would always be with me. Now that I was alone in my room I sit on the bed letting my tears fall. "Selene where did you go?" I ask as I wipe my face. "right here mistress. Forgive me for missing lessons with you earlier I was making preparations for an outdoor lesson. I believe the sun would be good for you." Selene says from behind me. I turn quickly to see her standing by the window. i rush over to her and trow my arms around her waist as i berry my face into her stomach letting tears fall. "i was so scared without you and worried that you left me all alone because you didn't want to finish our deal." i cry and i feel her hands on my back gently rubbing it as if to calm me down. "hush now my lady, i will never leave unless ordered to. i'm sorry i scared you i just had a few things to get ready. now let's go down to the garden and we can have some of your lessons well the sun is still up." she says as she wipes my tear streaked face. we walk out to the garden where there was a table set up that was surounded by flowers. i give a small sigh as the smell of flowers surrounds us as i study. Selene had a sad look in her eyes the whole time we were working but i didn't ask her about it thinking that she would tel me when she was ready.
