One – First Signs of Trouble

When you’re no longer with someone you think back on the times you had with them, replay it in your head, over and over again. And you look for those first signs of trouble. I spend most of my time doing this. Thinking back on the times I had with Ant, replaying them over and over and over, usually giving myself a headache.

When he started calling less, sending only the occasional text. When he became distant, a kiss on the cheek here and there, holding my hand or slinging an arm around my waist only when we were out in public. Those were the first signs of trouble.

And so I sit in my uncomfortable hospital bed and cry over a boy who didn’t love me, a boy who had stopped loving me, if he ever did, a while ago.
