You'll want to listen to this song, but I suggest waiting until after the chapter. Just a piece of advice. =)

Love you all.

Loving Rain - Ch. 35

Cian spun me around and around, each time going a tiny bit faster and making sure my feet didn’t touch the ground. We were dancing in Serafina’s Ballroom, surrounded by all the other couples who littered the floor. The rest of her guests, minus the ones from Anatolia’s kingdom, had shown up over the past day, and soon we realized that this might actually be exactly what we needed. The average feeling that came with being surrounded by people of status.

My prince thought it’d be best for me if he could just take my mind off of everything. So last night he had succeeded in sneaking into my room and wrapping me up in his embrace before showering kisses down on me. Well, I had assumed it was all for my benefit. But he seemed a little bit happier when we woke up this morning, too. I guess for me, being in his arms was enough to brighten my day, and for him it was holding me that made him feel alive.

The music stopped playing, and my toes finally brushed the floor again as he set me gently down. His arms stayed wrapped around my waist, and my breathing grew heavy. The look in his eyes made me regret that we weren’t officially together yet, and that we had to sneak around just to kiss each other’s lips. I wanted to be able to hold his hand all night without getting dirty looks, or without anyone thinking we were too serious for our own good. Because unmarried people should never be this dedicated to each other, or so everyone seemed to think.

But we were, and nothing was going to stop us from being that way. We both knew that we were each other’s key to survival, and neither of us was willing to give that up. No matter how much danger it put others in, we would survive, if only because we were so stubborn and selfish. So despite all the glares we received, we danced nonstop to every song and I stared into his blue green eyes all night.

When the music started back up, I was almost too tired to continue. Cian understood right away, and for the first time that night he led me over to an area where we could sit and just converse with other people. But much to my chagrin, the table seemed empty save for two people: Tito and Anatolia.

I forced my lips to curl up into a satisfactory and welcoming smile, but then didn’t even bother to try and keep it up. Cian, who knew of my feelings since I had whispered to him last night, tightened his grip on my hand but nonetheless continued in his path to join them. It wasn’t as if they didn’t know we were headed over there, and any deviation from that would seem rude. And Cian’s whole goal this trip was to show everyone how nice we were, so that no one else would decide to turn me over to Alan.

My spine tingled and I turned around, feeling as if someone were watching us. But everyone seemed too involved in the intricate and exuberating dance to be paying us any attention. Since we got here, my nerves had been pretty high, I guess, because there had been quite a few moments like this.

“Hello, Cian, my friend!” Tito smiled, his voice warm and pleasing. However he got attached to such a cold hearted girl I would never know. He was always so worried about how everyone else was doing; I had often seen him pass a small gold coin to a servant just for doing their job. That was definitely a first, and I could never have even imagined Alan doing such a thing. He’d say they got paid for what they did, and any more pay was only deserved if they got hired to do more. But even at that, Alan never treated anyone unkindly. And to be honest, the pay they received was higher than what I’d heard servants usually earn.
