Chris's point of view

"Daddy... I really need to talk to you about something." Blessing walks into my room looking down at the floor.

Despite my daughters tough exterior, she has a very soft center. It's not always easy for me to tell when something may be upsetting her but this time I can see clear as day.

"Have a seat." I put my phone down and she sits across from me on the bed.

As soon as she raises her head up to look at me, I can tell she's been crying. Her eyes have become red flushed spheres with brown centers. They're puffy and the rim of her eyelashes are wet.

"Bless, what's wrong?" I take her hand in mine and squeeze it gently to let her know I'm here.

"I....uh.....Do you think my mom was pretty?" She ask.

I'm a little confused. I can't tell if this ties into the subject or if it's a distraction.

"No, I think your mother was incredulously aesthetic. She had a radiating beauty. I've never seen someone more astonishing than Kristen."

I haven't thought about Kristen in awhile, she was one that came directly from the hands of God. I don't know how I let her get away. Kristen had deep brown eyes, the color of wet tree bark. While that may not sound very enticing, to me it was utter beauty. Her irises had tints of a topaz color, like the sun staring out the horizon. Kristen had shoulder length curly hair, it was more of a mane actually. It had so many different types of curls that it'd remind you of vines entwining themselves in the jungle. Her soft skin was a medium brown with freckles on her face. She had full beautiful lips. Some people would say she looked like Crystal Westbrook. While Crystal Westbrook is indeed very beautiful, she was nowhere near Kristen. Kristen was a brown skin goddess.

"Do...I look like my mother?"

Ah. Now I see. Blessing must be having some self esteem problems.

"You have elements of her in you..but I must say me and her created something way too astonishing for this world. You, my child, are by far the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."

That wasn't a lie. I think my daughter is very beautiful. Inside and out. She was on the same level of beauty of her mother.

"....Really? You think I'm beautiful?"

"I think you're way beyond beautiful. In my eyes, you're nothing short of perfect. That's why I don't want you messing around with these little boys. They look at you like a prize, something to show off... I know because that was initially how I felt about your mother. Then I fell crazy in love, not with only her physical beauty but her mental beauty. Wow... You're mother was extremely intellectual. She challenged me intellectual and gave me reasons as to why to find the good in life. She was smart and witty, but she could be sly and slick. She was talented and there was never a dull moment with her. Your mom was spontaneous even though she had the attention span of a goldfish. Although that didn't stop her insane ingenuity. She did have a mouth on her though, I'd upset her and she's just go on and on for hours, she'd bring up things that happened before I was even born and use them against me... A lot like you."

Blessing smirks lightly.

"Hey, I got a little smile. Now tell me what's up."

"I don't feel pretty. I don't think I am, and there's so many girls at my school that are super pretty and-

"Let me stop you there. You aren't pretty. You have rare and distinct beauty crafted by no one but God himself. You Blessing Brown, you're astonishing, drop dead gorgeous, and stunning combined in one package. Both inside and out. Never sell yourself short by saying you're pretty."

"Do you really think that?"

"Completely. I know some people have some really ugly kids, and some people have some kids that have nothing to offer this world. Yet you, you are going to do great things. You will be something great and you will cause movements in this world. Trust me people will remember your name."

I wipe the single tear that rolls down her cheek and she smiles. I pull her small body into my chest and hug her. Blessing and I don't always get along. We're very similar so moments like these aren't common. I hold on to my little girl tight. I've never had an ounce of hate towards Kristen for not telling me about her. Although, at this moment I do feel a small ounce of resent towards her. She allowed me to miss out on all of this. At the first, I hated the thought of having to be a father but within no time this little girl made me feel like one of the most important people in the world. Being a father gives you a type of joy that nothing else can give you. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. The ups and downs... I'd trade none of them.

"Do you feel at least a little better?" I ask

"Yeah, I love you." She mumbles while still hugging me.

"I love you too Bless."

The door opens and in walks Izzy.

"So I was just... Oh are y'all having a moment... I can..."

Blessing stretches out her arm to him.

"Nah, I'm good. I don't really like to be."

"Come on, yknow you want to!" Blessing says.

Izzy looks around and sighs.

"Ugh..fine."

Izzy drags himself across the room and joins our big hug session.

See times like these... It's what family is all about.
