Mara Leigh

The first thing I noticed was that I was no longer burning. Then that there were cold hands massaging my neck and arms, but I could do nothing to stop them. I couldn't make my eyes open, talk, or move at all.

Slowly realization came that the hands weren't inappropriately touching me. They were examining as they moved down my arms and over my stomach. I wished I could tell whoever was doing it to stop, because it sure didn't feel good. I could tell that I was laying on something soft. Like a mattress.

Am I still at the hotel? Did Beau call an ambulance? I told him not to.

The last thing I could remember was telling Beau to leave. I hadn't been able to talk well, and wasn't sure if he could understand me. I prayed that he had, because if Xander was on the way, then Beau didn't need to be around.

The hands disappeared, and I fought to get moving. Maybe I could blow off whoever this was and get gone before Xander showed up.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get my muscles to work.

Stupid werewolf magic, I thought. When I get a chance, I'm going to strangle him. If he would've just left me alone, everything would be fine.

After what felt like forever of pushing myself I finally got control. My eyes finally cracked open, and I closed them quickly, as I saw that I didn't know the room that I was in.

I'm not in the hotel.... I thought. Where am I? Where is Beau?

I opened my eyes a little, just enough to look around the room. There was an older man standing beside where I was laying, with a white coat on. His name tag read that he was Dr. Owen Everett. I assumed it'd been him touching me, as he was currently scribbling onto a clipboard.

The room around me was set up just like a hospital room. Beau must not have heard me say no. Or maybe I just imagined that I'd said no.

The doctor moved his hand to my face, and I fought not to flinch. His cold hand opened my jaw. I let myself go limp, hoping that he wouldn't know I was awake. After a quick look, he shut my mouth and then moved to open my eyes.

Oh crap! What do I do!

Right before he pulled my eyelids apart I heard a growl.

"Are you done yet?" Xander's aggravated voice came from the left side of me, stopping the doctor.

"I told you, Alpha. I'm just doing the check up while she's asleep because she's here and it isn't awkward for her. I'd have to do it eventually anyway. She'll wake up when she wakes up. Nothing we do is going to make it quicker."

Xander growled quietly and muttered something under his breath. I heard the doctor chuckle and through my cracked eyes could see him smiling while he snapped his gloves off his hands.

Well, there's Xander, I thought. Not who I wanted to see. I guess Beau really did call him. Where's Beau, then?

I prayed that Xander hadn't done anything to him. I didn't know that I would be able to live with myself.

A mixture of guilt and fear covered me as I thought about when he caught me trying to leave a week ago. I should have fought him harder to keep him from coming with me. If he hadn't have came, Xander wouldn't have had a reason to target him.

There's no telling what Xander did to him, I thought, a tear forming in my eye. I fought as hard as I could to keep it from sliding down the side of my face, but it did.
