A white, fluffy pillow hit Saige's head, as she sat on the couch, from across the living room. "Nyle, can you please not?"

Nyle shrugged from next to her. "I don't know what you're talking about. I've been here the whole time."

Another pillow came and smacked Saige across the face. She put her book,The Thieves of Otar by Leah George, down and sprang up and narrowed her eyes at Nyle. "Oh, it is so on." She poked Nyle in the arm, and he yelped as a jolt of electricity zapped him.

"Not fair!" he cried, rubbing the area she had electrocuted. "That was direct contact!"

"Guys, can you quiet down?" Mira called from the other side of the room where she sat at their computer desk. "I'm trying to read this article, and it's a bit hard to focus when you're bickering like three year-olds." She turned back to the computer and scrolled down the article.

"Sorry," they chorused.

Parker got up from his place in the Reading Chair and went to stand by her. "What's it about?"

"Apparently, a few months ago, there was a huge accident at a laboratory in Ireland, and it destroyed just about all of the research and specimens they had," Mira explained. "It turns out that, somehow, a woman survived and is trying to rebuild the lab." She turned the computer screen to show Parker. "All she has left is a memory stick, or something. Isn't it crazy?"

He whistled. "Wow. That's... She should be dead."

Mira nodded. "I know." She sighed, becoming sad. "It's terrible though. I'm sure she had friends that died in the explosion."

Nyle asked, suddenly interested, "The only survivor of a huge explosion? I don't think that sounds that bad. It sounds cool."

Saige hit him on the back of the head. "Insensitive dork," she muttered.

"Oversensitive dweeb," he replied lamely. "And besides, she should be glad she's not dead like everyone else."

She rolled her eyes and got up from the couch she was sitting on. "Anyone hungry? It's just about two, so I can make some lunch."

"Sure," Mira replied. "That'd be great. Thanks, Saige!"

Parker and Nyle nodded in turn, saying the same thing.

Saige headed upstairs to make some food, while Parker and Mira continued to search up the accident in Ireland.

"I wonder what they were researching," Mira pondered. "I mean... All of that information is just gone."

Nyle rolled his eyes. "Why are you so interested anyway? It's all the way in Ireland. Not even close to us."

Shrugging, Mira said, "I dunno. It's just an interesting topic. Science can be cool."

"Then it creates things like... human hybrids. Don't forget the weird dog-girl we met in the alleyway."

Mira sighed. "Yeah, I know... But science can also do things like, cure diseases, or treat cancer. It's not always bad."

"Says the girl whose best friend was the walking snake..."

Mira looked away.

Parker glared at Nyle. "Nice going."

"Mira, I didn't mean it like tha--"

"It's fine," she interrupted. "It's not like it's not true..."

Nyle pursed his lips before sighing. "I'm going to go see if Saige needs help. Yell if you need us." He got up and walked into the kitchen.

Saige was bringing out the pot, and some soup cans to make soup. She filled the pot with water and let it sit on the stove top. She touched the stove element and it heated up immediately.

"Need any help?" Nyle asked, leaning against the counter.

She shook her head. "Not really. It's pretty simple. Add the soup stuff to the water and make it hot. Then you eat it."

He smirked. "True."

"Then again, I'll probably have to make a double batch to satisfy your appetite," Saige teased.

Nyle stuck his tongue out at her. "Oh, shut up."

"Hey, how's that food coming along?" Mira called out from the living room. "I'm hungry!"

Saige laughed. "Mira, you're always hungry." There was a moment of silence before she called out again. "And it should be done in twenty minutes or so."

"Alright," Mira grumbled. "I suppose I could wait another twenty minutes."

****************

"So, guys," Saige said quietly as they ate the tomato soup. "We're low on food. We're going to have to go out shopping again."

Parker sighed. "So soon? We just went last week."

She shrugged. "We're low. Do you know how much food we eat? Enough for three families," she said, answering her own question.

"How do you know?" Mira asked.

"I calculated it," Saige replied nonchalantly. "I was bored."

"Clearly," Nyle commented, taking a sip of soup out of the spoon that was floating in the air in front of him.

Saige lightly smacked his arm.

"Are you sure you two aren't related?" Mira asked, quirking her lips into a smirk.

"Positive," they said in unison before narrowing their eyes at each other.

"Anyway," Saige said, changing the topic. "We should either go out tonight or tomorrow. I think we have enough for dinner tonight, but just to be safe..."

Parker frowned. "How do we run out so quick? I mean, ignoring our appetites..."

Saige shrugged. "I don't know. It just... disappears. One night there's a whole box of crackers, the next morning, it's half empty." Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Nyle turn slightly pink. "I knew it!" she exclaimed. "You've been eating at night, haven't you?"

"I will neither deny nor confirm your accusations," Nyle said smartly.

Mira rolled her eyes. "Yeah, he did it."

He held a hand to his sternum and said mockingly, "Mira, I am offended!"

Saige held her hands up. "Guys, back to the topic. We need food. Are we going today or tomorrow?"

"If there's a chance that we won't have enough for dinner, we should go now," Mira said. "I mean, we don't want to risk not having enough."

Nyle's playful face fell as he nodded. "Mira's right. We should go today."

Saige nodded. "Parker? Any input?"

He shook his head. "Whatever you guys decide is fine with me."

"Alright. We'll head out at six," Saige decided. "That's four hours from now. That should be okay, right?"

Mira nodded. "Sounds good."
